Summer recruitment was scattergun, reflecting the profile of the manager we brought in then. The players brought in have been poor for the most part and we’re in a mess.

‘Just staying up’ isn’t what I want the aim to be long term at this football club - but it’s where we are now.

The simple fact of the matter is: we’re bottom of the league; Sellés is a good appointment but he’s probably not a miracle worker, we sacked a capable manager for a useless one and have thus regressed 2 years to when we first appointed the capable one.

Quick word on Hughes and Palmer; only players who had a decent game yesterday.

Pandur; player of the season, the reason we’re not cut adrift already.

Coyle, Longman and Slater; 100% effort, as per. Genuinely care about the club. Class acts.

Then if Zambrano’s ban gets lifted, all of a sudden we’re massively overloaded in holding midfield again.

If only we’d have kept Seri, eh! 😂

Acun wants another No.6, but I don’t see why. Xavier Simons is arguably the only player TW improved, and I liked the little bits of what I saw from Steven Alzate yesterday- who has barely played since he signed due to fitness/injury issues.

We need a winger and striker at least. If Giles goes we need a left back. Maybe a reinforcement at centre back too. Midfield is strong in numbers but I can see us bringing another one in.

Same can be said for Ömür, unless Sellés can help him rediscover the promise he showed last season under Rosenior - despite playing out of position on the wing.
I can see Mehlem going too. No TW here anymore, got no reason to stay. Doesn’t impact games, and wouldn’t be a miss.

I can see Giles leaving. He looked better yesterday, but has been here a year and has had two decent games that I can recall. Still looked static most of the time, and only crossed the ball in the 2nd half when fans shouted at him to.

Jared Dublin’s late arrival gives him a free pass, there’s not a lot he could’ve done. But anyone on Acun’s “Brain Team” who was responsible for that car crash should be kept well away from things this Jan. Leave it to Dublin, the proper scouts and Sellés.

This frees up space for better players on loan in January, a window which is crucial to our survival in this league now. The summer window was a disaster, with slow business, TW turning down most players the scouts recommended and then having to get reserve options in late.

Zambrano, in a system under TW that didn’t use the midfield, made his mark. That’s why I’d keep his loan active in case the ban gets overturned. If it doesn’t, what the club do in the summer with the buy option is one to keep an eye on.

I think there’s a player in there, regarding Puerta. When he first came into the team, he looked decent. With a new manager and some confidence, I think he could be a useful asset.
Zambrano is the only one of the loanees who has really stood out when he played.

There’s an argument for sending all of the loans back in January. Burns isn’t playing, Rushworth we don’t really need, Bedia is poor, Puerta started brightly then tailed off, and that leaves the suspended Zambrano. Of the 5, I’d keep 2 at a push: Puerta and Zambrano.

I’ve tried my best to give Abu Kamara time. Playing on his weaker flank, Pompey fans reviewed him as being hopeless for them out there but great when on the right. I’ll wait until he’s played a few games under Sellés to judge properly, but I’m starting to get Ebiowei vibes.

Another instance against Shef Wed when the ball was played into him, unmarked, and he could’ve headed it goalwards but attempted to chest it down and the chance had gone. YOU’RE MEANT TO BE A STRIKER!!

And as for Chris Bedia, oh my word! I’ve given up with him. When Palmer left the ball to him in the box in the 2nd half yesterday, a striker should open their body up and hit that with their right foot. Bedia takes a touch and turns his back to goal!

João Pedro would score 20+ goals if he was 4 years younger. His footballing brain is fantastic, he can spot what runs he needs to make and how he needs to press, but his body just won’t let him do it anymore. Mason Burstow hasn’t had a chance in his natural position yet.

Overall, the possession play was better and more exciting than it was under Walter. But we’re dire as soon as we get anywhere near the penalty area. When the best chance is a 35-yard pot-shot by a centre back 80-odd mins in that hits the post, something is really wrong.
