And by my first post, I mean 1.7 million households with incomes between $77-100k (roughly 45-50th percentiles) paying $1000 or less in CA state income taxes
Put another way, this slopulist change would provide more to households in the 45-50th income percentiles than we currently spend on the bottom quarter (yes, that’s a silly way to look at it, but still very telling about Porter’s seriousness and priorities)
If we are to trust AI summaries to quickly pull percentile distribution, that’s about 1.7 million families paying about 1% of the State’s personal income tax revenue. Interestingly, the current cost of CalEITC is $1.4 billion.
I think it’s quite bad progressive politicians instinct is to be anti tax.
Taxes are not a significant financial burden on lower to middle income people! This is a conservative talking point! Knock that shit off!
There is a License to Kill-specific newsletter that has been sending out additional updates!: calmatters.org/subscribe-to...
@calmatters.org is doing such incredible work that the DMV is immediately getting caught in its own lies, and then getting immediately caught by CalMatters. Fantastic work holding power accountable for allowing the slaughter of children.
It’s a disgrace Steve Gordon still has a job. He should have been in tears begging for forgiveness for his role in hurting all those families sharing the worst days of their lives to make a difference. Only a twisted pathetic person could sit there and make selfish excuses.
And filed legal briefs laying the groundwork to denaturalize several players on its own team, but Henry and his colleagues at the Athletic take their cues from Poch and USSF to avoid mixing any discussion of the USMNT and “politics” (presumably because they care more about access than journalism)
So glad to see it, but I wish they would also make one of the 4 lanes dedicated to cars around the large loop open to people as well.
Everyone has been asking SacRT for live tracking for light rail which is also consistently late/off schedule, but the way they’ve done bus live tracking does not make me feel optimistic.
This has happened twice to us with the 67 and once with the 51 in the past month. Even more remarkable, it will show that buses due to show up hours away are running 30-60 minutes “early” or “late.” This is with 30-minute (or worse) headways on essentially all routes!
SacRT does this even better with its “live tracking” which will show a bus running 5 minutes early (so we rush to get to the stop), then say the bus has already departed, and then 5 minutes later the bus actually shows up (all the while Google Maps is showing the bus several stops away)
Maddening to see such obfuscation from the author of a bill that will criminalize people biking while doing nothing to address unsafe driving.
The cause of the vast majority of deaths while biking or e-biking is drivers in CARS. If the Assemblymember truly cared about safety, she’d regulate cars.
A pedal-powered bicycle traveling under 20mph is not a threat that CA should create barriers to ride. If you want to improve safety for cyclists through the DMV, focus on improving the bills this session seeking to make DMV take drivers who repeatedly threaten and kill others off the road
I think of the introspection he showed through his Adu reporting and the savvy story he did on FC Sheriff Tiraspol - he absolutely would have met the moment in a way that is sorely needed. He made soccer stories into stories about life, and life is never untouched by politics.
Each LASD deputy gang actually has a different set of full combat gear - critical for deputies to be able to tell each other apart. These might be some Lomita Lizards

The Sierra Club of Loma Prieta salutes you
quite the shame you’ve opened yourself up to attack by considering the tradeoffs of a public policy; I have avoided such things by pretending they don’t exist and being really smug about it
This is SUCH a big deal. Would be transformative for anyone who bikes, walks, or takes transit in this city
Today, something happened in the City of Sacramento. The beginning of something exciting. Language was filed with the city for a ballot measure to raise sales tax 0.5% to fund safe streets and transit infrastructure. It's gonna take everyone to get this passed, but together, I think we can do it. 🚲🚌
E-bikes are a perfect example of how climate mitigation and adaptation solutions make people healthier and happier and while literally saving the world. Yet reactionary “Democrats” like @bauerkahan.bsky.social, @asmmarcberman.bsky.social, and @asmloridwilson.bsky.social wrote bills to block them.
@bauerkahan.bsky.social should be ashamed of herself.
We should also be calling Assemblymember Bauer-Kahn’s office every day they continue to sponsor this insulting bill.
Wow great point
What a real representative would do @dorismatsui.bsky.social
