this also isn't a christian nation, so we aren't bound by the tenets or norms of christianity, which loops this back to the original point about how there being no working social contract leads to concepts getting mislabeled and misapplied. christian grace isn't how to treat an american murderer.

the expected response from a christian toward someone committing egregious sin (thou shall not murder is a commandment!) is pretty complex. /just/ forgiving a person is not an adequate response from a christian toward a murderer.

gandhi listed seven sins of society as wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, religion without sacrifice, and politics without principle.

there are differences between good and bad things!

be kind to your neighbor. give grace to those different from you. condemn those who are violent to the people you love. hate those who seek to tear apart your world. these are appropriate applications of these actions. get out of the delusion that mlk or gandhi will fix everything by being nice.

one of the nefarious parts of US cultural discourse is that, lacking a meaningful and upheld social contract, abstract ideas like "kindness" or "grace" or whatever get applied to the absolute wrong things. those aren't appropriate ways to treat murderers of your family.

completely insane to me that the turning point rally involved erika kirk forgiving the shooter, and that received general praise. there are actually differences between good and bad things, and you should actually condemn and seek punishment for people who murder your loved ones.

went to portland a few weekends ago. walked the city east -> west and back again, got incredible donuts, perused some farmer's market stuff that stretched all the way along the river bank, then went to one of the coolest japanese gardens in the US. good city.

was always permadeath, hasn't ever had a retry turn/reset fight sort of button.

came out with no ascension. a1-a10 were added shortly after, then a jump to a15 a month or so later. a20 was released around the same time act 4 was added (patch 1.0!), which was about 2 years after early access began.

there's never been any metaprogression in terms of getting more hp or anything like that.

casey/anthony have said that adding unlocks at all was in part to satisfy reviewers. the point is for the full game to be fun, the unlocks are meant to be a relatively small part.
