First hike along the AT’s Rice Fields Trail, near Narrows and Pearisburg, VA. Kudos to the trail builders for the 1200ft climb up Peters Mountain. At 3400ft, the summit offers great panoramic views of Virginia and West Virginia.

First hike in Turkeycock Mountain Wildlife Management Area, near Martinsville. Very accessible trail climbs through dense woods with streams and Scout Pond.
