Not positive, but I believe NBA rules are that you negotiate your buyout and you get that amount from that team no matter what unless they allow you to structure a contract stating otherwise. Offset costs happen in the MLB at least according to the Moneyball movie.

I was watching the ESPN coverage, switched to ABC because I can't stand Kendrick Perkins mumble mouth. Never seems to say anything insightful, isn't very articulate, and isn't pleasant to look at. Not sure who his target demographic is 😬. SAS is unfortunately just as annoying but in a different way.
