A possible mechanism - theobromine (in chocolate) increases the number of fenestrations in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC): www.nature.com/articles/s41... (caveat - in vitro rat LSEC cultures). Paraxanthine (the main caffeine metabolite) has interesting effects on LSEC fenestrations too.
