The weather has been warm here, and this pumpkin is growing FAST. It's as tall as my forearm, and as large in diameter as my shoe. If you want a chance to win, lock in your guess on the weight of this pumpkin! All proceeds help fund our weekly outreach program!

Neighbors, Pumpkins, and Pokemon: Building Support Together Joyce has been busy supporting our neighbors in all kinds of ways—from providing propane and phone service to picking up essentials and supplies for outreach. Alongside her efforts, we’ve got a fun surprise growing in the yard: a giant pumpkin that started as a kindergarten project! We’re inviting everyone to guess its final weight in our pumpkin raffle. Plus, thanks to sales from my personal Pokémon, Lorcana, and Star Wars cards, we’ve been able to build a small emergency buffer to keep outreach going strong.

🎃 Our “kindergarten project” pumpkin has turned into a giant surprise! We’re running a fun raffle—take your best guess at how much it will weigh when we cut it from the vine. 🥳 Closest guess wins bragging rights and a prize!

The Hidden Work That Keeps Our Outreach Alive This week, I’m pulling back the curtain on what it really takes to keep our outreach and transition support programs running. Beyond street outreach, I spend over 20 hours each week fundraising, managing our Patreon, running a TCGPlayer store, organizing events, and covering gaps out of my own pocket. With donations down by 50% over the past two years, every dollar and every helping hand matters more than ever.

Keeping our outreach alive takes more than you think 💛
From Patreon to card sales to events — every bit counts.

Success Shouldn’t Have an Expiration Date Outreach on July 19th was warm and well attended, but it marked a temporary pause in our efforts. As both Joyce and I take needed personal time through August, I’ve been reflecting on the bigger picture — including the heartbreaking news that several of our formerly unhoused neighbors are losing their rent subsidies. Though the system is failing them, our work has not been in vain. This post shares an update on outreach, our ongoing efforts with the Outreach Notebook, and a personal look at what it means to build — and hold — community, even when policies fall short.

Outreach is on pause through August, but our hearts are heavy. Some formerly unhoused neighbors are now losing housing. We didn't fail them — the system did. Full update + fundraiser info on the blog: #Seattle #HousingJustice #MutualAid #Outreach

Software Development Progress and Volcano News From quiet conversations on the street to seismic activity beneath the sea, this week’s update covers a lot of ground—literally. Outreach efforts continue steadily, even as we navigate the summer slowdown and urgent propane requests. Meanwhile, scientists are keeping an eye on Axial Seamount off the Oregon coast, which may be on the verge of erupting. And closer to home, the “Outreach Notebook” software is nearly fully functional, bringing us one step closer to having a secure, volunteer-friendly tool for supporting our neighbors. Catch up on all the latest, including a quick weather outlook at the end.

This week’s update is live:

When təqʷuʔməʔ Stirs: a Call to Plan Outreach was paused this week due to illness and exams, but our focus shifted to something just as vital: preparedness. With recent earthquake swarms near Mt. Rainier (təqʷuʔməʔ), we reflect on the mountain’s power, its cultural meaning, and what disaster planning looks like for our community.

Outreach didn’t happen this week — life and exams got in the way. But with the recent Mt. Rainier earthquake swarm, I’ve been thinking a lot about preparedness, and how we care for each other when the ground shifts.

Small Victories & Big Uncertainties: This Week’s Outreach Update This week’s outreach update comes with a mix of celebration and concern. We caught up with a few neighbors over pizza and heard some incredible news from Sheryl, who moved indoors nearly two years ago — she’s starting college! 🎓 While we cheer her on, we’re also watching troubling developments in state and federal budgets that could impact housing and health services for our community. Read on for more and learn how you can advocate for continued support.

🎓 Big congrats to our neighbor Sheryl — she starts college this week!

This is caused by a housing crisis that began in the 1980's with budgetary spending cuts. There is not enough inventory to house those who live at the lowest income levels. New housing inventory concentrates on luxury over affordability. We do not get to choose who our neighbors are.

Our weekly outreach consists of food, water, and sometimes coffee. We are currently budgeting $80 per week to feed an average of 15-20 people a somewhat balanced meal with some snacks. Can you skip your Starbies once per month and donate to help us feed our neighbors?

As the weather begins to change and warm in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, volunteers have begun to think about what supplies can be distributed as the propane program winds down for the summer. If you have any good leads for donations of shoes, we would love to hear about them!
