This LGBTQ+ History Month I plan on reading Outrageous by @paulari.bsky.social and re-reading Bi by @drjuliashaw.bsky.social As a Bi+ person born in the mid-80s Section 28 and a lack of visible representation have had a huge negative impact on my life. Learning our history is incredibly important.
Tomorrow, we welcome criminal psychologist and bestselling author @drjuliashaw.bsky.social for Ethical Matters: Green Crime, a deep dive into some of the worst environmental crimes of our time.

Bi: The Hidden Culture, History and Science of Bisexuality by @drjuliashaw.bsky.social is a fascinating book about the often ignored, and oft entirely dismissed, topic of bisexuality, including both the history of bisexuality, and science around it, as the name suggests. 7/
Podcast: Green Crime: a new book from criminal psychologist @drjuliashaw.bsky.social both thrilling, informative & actually full of hope.
To prevent the crimes that destroy the life-supporting systems of the planet, we must understand the mind-set of the criminals

It was fascinating talking to criminal psychologist @drjuliashaw.bsky.social today about "Green Crime" - which explores the minds of the people destroying the planet, and then lays out how to stop them doing it!
A perfect theme for #COP30 week 2.

Since my "Defenders of the Environment" series I've been obsessed with the brave people fighting against ecological crimes.
@drjuliashaw.bsky.social new book "#GreenCrime" explores why these crimes are so deadly, and how we can stop them from "stealing our future".

98. Bi by @drjuliashaw.bsky.social . This was recommended to me and I really enjoyed it. Concise but thoughtful, approachable but opens new areas for critical exploration. And, despite frank discussion of the erasure, harassment, and persecution of bi+ people, it's also very affirming.
A daring comedy debut about de-radicalisation, an investigation of manufacturing & an unsettling novella. Psychologist @drjuliashaw.bsky.social engineer @HayaatunSillem & @harriettsg.bsky.social recommend #books they love. A Good Read 3pm Mon @BBCRadio4 #BBC www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
The context for the quote is that writing for an imagined reader diminishes the quality of the writing, this robs it of its soul/blood.
But it also feels like the catastrophising of all new technologies designed to spread ideas
"That everyone can learn to read will ruin, in the long run, not only writing but thinking too"
Just read this in Nietzsche's book Thus spoke Zarathustra, & it evoked the ai doomism we are hearing at the moment
Also - please share with anyone you think might benefit from these data!
And - just an offer - I would love to bring whatever research comes out of these data to a larger audience. So hit me up if you find something interesting!
They have also told me they are more than happy to present at any events about their prisoner survey.
If I were currently designing a syllabus, I think this would make an incredibly interesting guest lecture, in a data methods class or in a related psych/crim module.
It seems like an obvious choice as students at various levels look for new projects for the upcoming year. It might also make a good backbone for a larger piece of research around Prisons.
I spoke with the independent inspectorate for prisons last week - HMI Prisons - and they hope academics will use this incredible dataset for research 🧪

"Special licence" access can also be arranged, just note that it can take a couple of months
If you are interested in research on prisons or prisoners in the UK, there is an incredible & largely untapped dataset with 20 years of prisoner survey data that was recently released.
It has over 100,000 prisoner questionnaire responses 🧪

Hey! Thanks! The crimes are always US and UK because that is what we have access to - and it looks promising that there might be more coming
Had a great chat with @lexfridman.bsky.social that went live last week!
