Brava! Totally agree with all your points. I am at a weird crossroads of being professional services staff but academic too (PhD researcher). I am desperately trying to get full time hours in my PS role but there's no money so they University may end up losing me completely.

I wrote a piece for the CDBU blog with some low or no cost things our employers could do right now if they care about precarious staff as much as they say they do.

More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland.

They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

#OTD 7 January 1792, Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women was published. This text was hugely influential and is regarded as one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy. #WomensHistory #GenderHist

A studio photograph of the man, the myth, the legend, PHIL COLLINS seated at a drum kit, holding drumsticks and leaning casually on a tom drum. He faces the camera with a calm, confident expression. Large cymbals and stage lights frame him from behind, giving the scene a warm, professional concert-style atmosphere.
Above text reads: "PSA: If you hit play on "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins at 11:56:20PM this New Year's Eve, the drum fill will welcome you into 2026. Start the year the right way."

A black and white photographed page titled “Christmas Arrangements” from the Sussex County Asylum, dated December 1871. It lists the Christmas Day schedule in decorative handwritten script, including workshops and laundry closed, divine service at 11 am, patients’ dinner at 1 pm, a country walk in the afternoon, and evening activities in the class room. It also notes that the porter will lock the doors and ring the bell for lights out at 11.15 pm. Below, it lists entertainment in the recreation hall on December 26, a patients’ Christmas ball on December 27, and a household ball on January 2, 1872.

Sussex County Asylum Christmas, 1871.
Service at 11, dinner at 1, a walk if weather allows, then evening entertainment and lights out at 11.15.

Small comforts, even in confinement.

US could ask tourists for five-year social media history before entry The plan would affect people from countries, including the UK, which can fill out a form in lieu of a visa.

It's been over 5 years since Boris Johnson blocked me on Twitter for continually replying "dickhead" to each of his posts, so I should be okay. 🤞😇👍🙌
