Working in the open solved *some* of this. If you knew where to look, you could see the work going on to build systems which were safe, secure, and scalable.
But too many people were infected with the meme that the state is too slow to be effective. So they panicked and caused damage.

Interesting pointโฆ Apple appears unable to integrate AI (albeit possibly for valid privacy reasons); Google simply canโt seem to execute these days; and The Browser Company decided to torch the good will of the very users who would have been their most enthusiastic adopters and most vocal advocates.

Would a SAFE ROUTE WORK to stop Channel crossings?
Providing safe routes to reach the UK is the only logical, evidence-based way to stop people travelling through irregular means.

How To Remember Anything Forever-ish
an interactive comic on the art & science of memory
I've been working on learning French. ๐ซ๐ท๐จ๐ฆ As someone who has failed at learning languages a lot, I went in with a lot of apprehension. This time is a lot better! One reason is that I'm using spaced repetition. I'd read about it before, but this comic from Nicky Case is fantastic: ncase.me/remember/

Hot dog spill shuts down highway in Pennsylvania commuters' wurst nightmare
By Associated Press
UPDATED: August 1, 2025 at 5:16 PM ET
SHREWSBURY, Pa. (AP) - A truckload of hot dogs spilled across a Pennsylvania interstate Friday after a crash that briefly clogged the heavily traveled artery in both directions.

Sorry, but can you explain how devoting limited resources (energy and land) to meet uncertain demand (OpenAIโs boss acknowledges thereโs no path to profitability) using the current generation of GPUs (which will be rendered obsolete within a year or so) makes sense?

Nope, they will be redundant. No other application needs soon-to-be obsolete compute on the scale that has been built out.
