Working in the open solved *some* of this. If you knew where to look, you could see the work going on to build systems which were safe, secure, and scalable.

But too many people were infected with the meme that the state is too slow to be effective. So they panicked and caused damage.

Interesting pointโ€ฆ Apple appears unable to integrate AI (albeit possibly for valid privacy reasons); Google simply canโ€™t seem to execute these days; and The Browser Company decided to torch the good will of the very users who would have been their most enthusiastic adopters and most vocal advocates.

Would a SAFE ROUTE WORK to stop Channel crossings?
YouTube video by Zoe Gardner Would a SAFE ROUTE WORK to stop Channel crossings?

Providing safe routes to reach the UK is the only logical, evidence-based way to stop people travelling through irregular means.

Last night Ben Kentish challenged me on @lbc.co.uk on how that would work & whether A MILLION BILLION PEOPLE might come๐Ÿ˜ฑ www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al4R...

Definitely not in React, but the value of collocating styles with mark-up is extremely evident in the frameworks โ€” Vue, Svelte, Astro, etc โ€” that do support the pattern

How To Remember Anything Forever-ish an interactive comic on the art & science of memory

I've been working on learning French. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ As someone who has failed at learning languages a lot, I went in with a lot of apprehension. This time is a lot better! One reason is that I'm using spaced repetition. I'd read about it before, but this comic from Nicky Case is fantastic: ncase.me/remember/

Ask yourself why youโ€™re having to entreat the model to carry out the simplest possible request.

01.08.2025 22:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The point is assumed: the model has no conception of โ€œcomplianceโ€ so it will continue to โ€œdisobeyโ€.

Iโ€™m objecting to the consequence.

Sorry, but can you explain how devoting limited resources (energy and land) to meet uncertain demand (OpenAIโ€™s boss acknowledges thereโ€™s no path to profitability) using the current generation of GPUs (which will be rendered obsolete within a year or so) makes sense?

Incredibly, they managed to make it effective reading from the bottom up too

01.08.2025 21:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Nope, they will be redundant. No other application needs soon-to-be obsolete compute on the scale that has been built out.
Damage to local biospheres irreversible though, so thatโ€™s nice.
