choosing not to look at evidence and potentially change your mind because you don't like the tone is a fault in you.

choosing not to look at evidence and potentially change your mind because you don't like the tone is a fault in you.
09.02.2026 20:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0that's deeply irrational because there's a finite (and small) amount of voting reform energy, and if you squander it on worse ideas (that are also more complex thus more likely to be repealed), you lose big time.

@councilorclark.bsky.social I'd love to get your thoughts on bringing Oregon's Citizens' Initiative Review process to Portland. Someone in my network made this page about it.

your argument to a body of facts is "i can't actually address the evidence, but i don't like it because it doesn't 'sound convincing to people'". that's lunacy.

01.02.2026 23:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0whether a debate is "agreed" on (whatever that means) has nothing whatsoever to do with whether your argument is valid, or is a fallacy.

27.01.2026 00:26 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0no, it was not the correct one. begich was preferred by a large majority to Palin, and preferred by a large majority to peltola. he was almost certainly the most preferred candidate. you just have no understanding of social choice theory. you don't even know the basic terms of the topic.
26.01.2026 23:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I repeat, we can objectively measure how good a voting method is at achieving whatever goals the voters have. this has been objectively measured and the results show approval. voting is better.
26.01.2026 23:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I just cited voluminous evidence from the world's top experts that cardinal methods like star voting and approval voting are radically simpler than ranked methods, especially IRV. You're just ignoring that and asserting the contrary, proving you have no understanding.
link.medium.com/mKcRWz0xR7
then you just don't understand what the point of a good voting method is. The point is to get the highest expected utility. The highest satisfaction with election results in the ultimate policy that creates. whether that means supporting Hamas in your case, or opposing Hamas in mine.
26.01.2026 23:32 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0please explain to me how I can rank my sincere favorite first with IRV without being punished by a spoiler effect that elects the greater evil.
oh wait, you can't.
you support a system that keeps us trapped in two-party duopoly.
That's a completely irrelevant question. it's mathematically proven that ALL deterministic voting methods have strategic voting. Approval voting minimizes this effect because it satisfies the favorite betrayal criterion which nearly all ranked methods fail, e.g. IRV.
medium.com/@ClayShentru...
no, it is radically more complicated than either of them. you have no idea what you're talking about.
link.medium.com/mKcRWz0xR7
Approval voting is just star voting on a 0-1 binary scale, and thus is just a little bit less accurate, but radically simpler and more politically viable. I'm the co-inventor of star voting.
26.01.2026 23:23 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0oh so you have no idea what the word genocide means. Great.
26.01.2026 23:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0we can objectively measure how good of voting meth it is at giving voters what they want. Approval voting is good at this.
26.01.2026 23:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0if you tell me that a race car is bad because it was designed to look pretty, yet it still wins every race, then it is still a good race car regardless of what it was "designed" to do. Approval voting is objectively highly accurate. you just don't understand social choice theory.
26.01.2026 23:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0it does not matter one iota what a system is "designed" to do. we can objectively measure how accurately a voting method selects the candidate that represents the preferences of the electorate. Approval voting is objectively good at this. you have no idea what you're talking about.
