So when I started writing, whenever another writer messaged me I got so excited & would respond right away. But in the last few years I’ve gotten burned so many times w/bots or inappropriate messages that I’ve become suspicious of everything. It kinda sucks.

My reading spot for the next couple hours. Decided on The Bell Jar. I’ve been meaning to read it for years and just never got to it. Today is it. 🩵

Is it hard being on social media? Yes. Do I sometimes compare w/others & it makes me feel awful? Also yes. But is it also a place where I have a community I love w/writers that understand the beautiful complicated lonely thing it is to do this craft? A giant yes. ❤

Day one of solo writing retreat. Edited an essay I started 4 yrs ago & sent it off to a great outlet I read every day. I should've had someone else read it first (I definitely recommend doing that w/your pieces) but in my defense I did read it out loud 8 times!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

I’m at a solo writing retreat. I’m at a place so isolated, I can’t see another human. If you’d told me in my 20s I’d do this I would’ve said you’re nuts, I need people, but in my 50s, it feels almost necessary in order to hear my stories. So even though I’m nervous I’ll be lonely, going to try it! ❤️

I feel this enormous pressure to produce every day. Is it American thing or do other countries have the same pressure? I know in my gut it’s not healthy or necessary, but can’t shake the feeling if I let myself slow down, I’ll fall behind. It’s something I really struggle w/& want to work on.

Totally!!! One year I fainted right as they were doing it. So painful.

This is what happens when you’re old and you go to your husband‘s college reunion and stay up way beyond your 9:30 pm bedtime!!!!
