7/ The goal isn’t to close the door to global talent—it’s to refine the system. Let’s create a process that supports innovation, protects U.S. workers, and rewards truly high-skilled individuals.

6/ Additionally, capping the number of H1Bs issued per country has merit. It could ensure more diversity in talent, rather than concentrating visas among a few countries. But caps are artificially stringent, and need to be adjusted to accommodate our current needs.

5/ One potential solution? Implement a point-based system like Canada or Australia. This could prioritize candidates based on accredited education, academic/work experience, and other measurable factors, ensuring we attract the best and brightest.

4/ Another issue: Higher education in the U.S. has become an industry. Some universities admit international students to MS programs despite questionable undergraduate qualifications. These degrees shouldn’t automatically qualify someone for an H1B.

3/ Employers sometimes use the H1B program to bring in talent at lower salaries than they’d pay U.S. college graduates for the same roles. This creates wage pressure and limits opportunities for local talent.

2/ That said, there’s room for reform. Not all H1B talent is created equal. While many are brilliant engineers and researchers, some positions filled through the program don’t require highly technical skills.

India has an embarrassment of riches on the bowling front. Who should join Bumrah? On present form, Prasidh Krishna is a shoo in. Siraj has a good away track record, but has been out of form recently. Nitish may be played as the fast bowing allrounder. Mukesh Kumar has been bowling well.

The composition of the Indian cricket 11 for the first test in the #BGT20204 will be interesting. Even if Rohit is available, India may want to sit him out to get him acclimated. Wonder why Sai Sudarshan wasn’t also asked to join the team. He scored a century against Australia A.
