Branches of a holly tree, with red berries and spiky, yellow-rimmed leaves. Some of the leaves are covered in snow.

A little late for christmas, but I had to share this snow-covered holly (Ilex aquifolium).

Two conjoined moss pillows, about 2 cm / 1 inch across. Fruiting bodies (little spore-filled capsules on the end of a stalk) are visible growing out of the left pillow.
The leaves look like six-pointed stars, made of two three-pointed stars, shifted against each other.

A small moss pillow I found in my yard today. You can clearly see the fruiting bodies on the left patch.
Not sure what kind of moss this is. My best guess is Orthotrichum anomalum, but I may well be wrong.

Two flowers of Primula vulgaris (Primrose). The flower has 5 radially symetrical petals. The petals are a light violett / pink on the outside and a deep yellow towards the centre. Giving the entire flower the appearance of a yellow, 5-pointed star on a pink background.

I didn't expect it this early in the year, but it's always nice to find a speck of colour outside, especially when it's cold, grey and rainy.

Primula vulgaris (Primrose), found in Baden-WΓΌrttemberg, Germany
