This tragedy happened on 64th Avenue, a residential townhouse-lined street. Right before it happened, a group of kids was playing outside - like kids love to do.

Look at the street. Why does a residential neighbourhood have a pseudo-freeway running through it?

This new protected bike lane on Pacific Street, connecting the Beach Avenue bikeway with the Burrard Street bridge, is brilliant. The city just had to remove a bunch of on-street parking spaces to make it happen. Great work.

Currently being built in Bothell. If you change design standards to move the bike lane on the other side of the curb and planter strip you can create a better, safer experience for all modes with the same amount of right of way.

Sort of related to officials (and culture) trying to keep suburbia neat and tidy and perfect, even rare-use cases have to be accommodated in a permanent fixed integrated and “clean” way.

In my municipality it’s been a little nerve-wracking in the sense we may end up with auto-centric density instead of something livable and walkable. There is a risk the planning dept may not have or receive the support they need to do it well.
