As a layout person, I have such respect for the people who put these together.

Don’t just make it all fit, also include image assets. Also make sure the bullet points align. Put two bullets next to each other sometimes. Keep vertical rhythm. This is either so hard, or so time consuming, or both.

Look at this page. Four tables (or is it one?) Sure, fine, easy. Okay, you do it. Make it fit at scale.

If you work in an office, you've seen this magazine. You may have ordered things from it as part of the job. What I respect here is the same as any sense catalogue: fitting all relevant information and keeping it coherent must be so difficult.

The characters in Heated Rivalry hold game controllers as if they've actually used them to play video games. Tiny detail, but the you'd be surprised how seldom that very low bar is cleared.

Subject-matter-wise, it doesn't quite hold me. This is billionaire-owned, much like American social media. But, as of the print date, there are no AI-generated deepfakes in these pages. The bar is in fact that low right now. And in the current commercial vernacular, that’s a win.

I have no doubt the editors and designers here work their asses off to maintain this level of institutional polish. None of this can be easy.

What are the crimes here? The photography is good. The interviews are agreeable. What you’re seeing is formulaic excellence: pleasant, repeated layout templates executed by professionals at an industrial scale.

Why not British Vogue? Whatever lingering bias I had against mainstream style glossies doesn't quite compare to *waves arms at the current state of things* all of this.
