So cool! Congrats!!
Ayyy, thanks newly minted Gowrishankar Lab. Hope starting the lab is going well!
In a recent pub, grad students Kijoon and Corinne co-led a study where we made molecular tools to manipulate transposable elements (TEs) in mouse prefrontal cortex. We saw that transcriptional escape of brain TEs uniquely impaired complex social behavior.

My dissertation paper finally dropped in Nature Communications!
Overall, the conclusion is that psilocybin may be useful in reducing drug craving that often precipitates relapse through mechanisms related to 5-HT2A activation.

In a new paper, we analyze published RNAseq and discover impact to the expression of transposable element transcripts in the brains of people with major depressive disorder. Natalie Truby, a recent-grad from the lab, spearheaded this work.

In this preprint, grad students Kijoon Kim and Corinne Smith re-programmed the function of the KZFP-interacting protein TRIM28. We discover that TRIM28 disfunction in mouse PFC releases TEs and impedes complex social behaviors. The work is an ode to community. Read about it below!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to @ericjnestler.bsky.social on being named Interim Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine! As we express great enthusiasm for Dr. Nestler becoming Dean & the exciting time ahead, please join us in thanking Dean Charney for his extraordinary service & commitment to Mount Sinai.
