The agave snout weevil looks like if Boston Dynamics made an insect.

It was a very weird experience. 1st I was trying to process what I was seeing w/my eyes—why is the inside of this plant squirming?—and then the visual processing was appended with an appropriate tag—bugs; giant larvae!—and THEN i yelped. I felt it happening in slow motion, like when u stub ur toe.

Giant overturned agave with brown pulpy stuff in the middle which is all rot. It was full of beetles and giant white larva, all writhing in the sun.

It was a this point that i called a professional.

Not me trying to move a giant, dying agave, only to turn it over and discover the inside the rotting and full of writing beetles.

But, me.

I spent the day at a small conference where the CO2 in the room hovered between 1800–2000 ppm. You better believe I wore a mask. I'm on a train heading home now. You better believe that's a maskin'.

(There’s no way he’s actually right about this insofar as many blue collar vocational jobs that can’t be replaced by AI are predominately female, eg nursing, and many of the jobs that will be immediately affected are predominately male, eg software engineers)

No childcare, nursing, or eldercare services in our society apparently.

We keep finding strange ocean fossils on the top of Mount Everest | BBC Science Focus Magazine Explorers keep finding marine life fossils at the top of Mount Everest. As weird as that sounds, there's a perfectly good reason why

Can you imagine detesting the Earth so much and wanting to leave it and go to Mars and meanwhile the Earth is just being the baddest bitch.

I always see that phrase as having 2 meanings depending on how u are primed to perceive it. After as in vs before. (We all now live in the after.) And after as in, past it. (In which we do not live, even if some imagine themselves to). The discarded mask however is unambiguous.

Where have all the Long COVID clinics gone? - The Sick Times A nationwide survey reveals the uncertain state of specialized care for Americans living with the chronic disease

ICYMI: Check out this incredible data visualization story on the shuttering of Long COVID clinics by @delfimarchese.bsky.social.

Delfi reached out to 100s of U.S. clinics: only 30 responded, showing how difficult it is for people with Long COVID to access care.

Has there ever been a war in modern American history of which more Americans were simply living their lives entirely unaware that it was happening?

#sandylintermakeup A one of the first things I did with my Amex card newly given to women, in 1974, was to invite Gia on a trip to St Barths. 1979.
She accepted

What do you think of my business idea? YouTube video by Anthropic

This actress in this commercial is incredible. Are people just better actors now? (See also: Connor Storrie). What is happening? Everyone out here doing the equivalent of quads in acting.

My dog puked at 5 am and after cleaning it all up off the floor, when I put her dog beds into the wash I came back to discover the whole container of detergent had fallen off the shelf and spilled out all over the laundry room, so then I was also wiping the detergent off the floor like it was puke.

“Can I give your dog a treat?”

“Whats in it?”

“Chicken.”

“Oh she doesnt do well with poultry.”

“Oh its fine. There‘s only 3 ingredients.”

“Right? And the first one is chicken. Like she WILL eat it. And then she‘ll puke, so…”

Like, hello? The fuck?
