I've tried many things in my time but blue wine from Cyprus is a first! Very pleasant, although Mrs H says she preferred drinking it on the Cypriot beach where she first discovered it, rather than cold and wintry Derbyshire 😁

Watched the Stargate movie for the first time in about 30 years last night. It holds up remarkably well, although some aspects have aged better than others and the nuclear bomb countdown is unintentionally hilarious. This film inspired elements of The Silent Division as well!

That's dedication! They can certainly be great for finding new authors.

I often use them in this way, especially if the previous book was heavy in terms of themes or just sheer page count.

It's a more general question about what people prefer. Part of the problem is there are so many different possible combinations and formats!

Yes, I enjoy an anthology for the same reasons. Also, because I rarely DNF a book, I appreciate the lack of long-term commitment that comes with picking up a short story as well 😁

As readers or writers (or both) do you actively hunt out short stories by a particular author, or are you only after novels or a series you can get your teeth into? Is anything below novella length not worth your time?

Bridgerton drives me to complete Chapter 17 of The Silent Division. Current book research is, "How many auditory cortexes are there in the human brain?" Two, apparently.

Turns out one of my novels made Dominish Books' Top 10 reads of 2025 and I missed it! 😂 Now I've found out it would be rude not to spread the word 😁 There are some great recommendations on this list, including some of my favourites and a few on my TBR too!
