For those who don't like spiders (see last post) here's something 'cuter'. A delightful Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) that I saw yesterday morning.

For photographers, this is a fairly big crop from a shot that was taken at 400mm with my trusty Canon 100-400 lens. So, not a macro shot.

We take preparation seriously for our guests, so our guides are out visiting sites in Greece before the groups arrival at the weekend for our autumn bulb tour. Two nice species seen today were Colchicum lingulatum and Biarum tenuifolium ssp.abbreviatum.

The new European Butterfly Red List found that the biggest threats to butterflies continue to be habitat loss and degradation but climate warming is having a devastating effect on sp. in the far north and far south of Europe. 52% (34) of all Red List sp. are now threatened by climate warming.
