Today marks Shirley Chisholm’s 100th birthday! She never forgot her roots at CUNY. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1946. She pioneered SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge), a program that provides academic and financial support to CUNY students to this day.

Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to Congress in 1968 and was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus. In 1972, Chisholm became the first Black woman to campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination with the slogan “Unbought and Unbossed.”
