There were debates on whether the climate question is dead, installation arts and traditional Saudi Arabian music. That was certainly a first for me!

The great thing about this yearโ€™s SXSW festival is the sheer range of talks and events that were held, some great, some less so, but nonetheless making up an eclectic mix. So we had the chance to be part of the audience for a recording of The Rest is Politics, with Ed Balls and Alistair Campbell.

FAIK OFF, 2025 โ€” Rankin

At the other end we had photographer Rankin, whose love hate relationship with the technology was laid bare, and who canโ€™t help but grudgingly use it. Heโ€™s got what seems like an intriguing exhibition, Faik Off, thatโ€™s doing just this www.rankinphoto.co.uk/exhibitions/...

Weekend - UN calls Gaza the โ€œhungriest place on Earthโ€ - BBC Sounds Gaza's entire population at risk of famine, the United Nations has said

Another way is to widen the definition of Classical music instrumentation without dumbing it down, as guitarist Sean Shibe spoke about in my feature for this weekโ€™s BBC World Serviceโ€™s Weekend programme. Have a listen if you missed it vimeo.com/1089525886 or 46'25" www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Yesterdayโ€™s session at the magnificent Christ Church in Spitalfields heard from BBC Radio 3, the LSO and the South Bank on creative response such as using immersive and theatrical experiences that recreate the times in which some of the music was written for.

Hearing about how classical music can reach wider audiences has become an ever more pressing question so it was great to hear it debated at the SXSW Festival thatโ€™s come to London from Austin, Texas for the first time.

Being the grandson of the greatest mass murderer in history has its challenges. Thatโ€™s the story of Kai Hรถss whose grandfather Rudolf Hรถss was the Commandant of Auschwitz. In some of the most compelling interviews Iโ€™ve ever done Kai talks of first learning of Rudolf in a school history lesson.

It was a privilege to be at last night's Association for International Broadcasting Awards amongst other global nominees from the big broadcasters. Great to see and hear the excellent work of independent journalists and programme makers continuing, despite the many barriers we face. Well done all.
