I, a French Jewel Thief, Refuse to Rob the Louvre Before Mid-Morning β€œThieves in balaclavas broke into Paris’ Louvre museum on Sunday morning, using a crane to smash an upstairs window, then stealing priceless object...

In France, we pride ourselves on enjoying life’s simple pleasures: food, drink, and the occasional grand larceny. To rush through these things would not just disrupt our leisurely schedule; it would be a sin. One must savor the moment, not run from robbery to robbery like a buffoon.

norms are defined by so many aspects: our culture, our age, or gender, our ethnicity, our use of technology, and our abilities. Basically every element that makes us human has an impact on what we consider a β€˜norm’ or not.

I'm always so intrigued by conversations surrounding norms. It's often a conversation that involves someone complaining that others don't follow their norm, and no thought or consideration that everyone has their own norms. || theeddesigner.com/2024/07/18/s... #EduSky #AcademicSky #UDL

β€œNo One Can Admit It Doesn’t Work”: Unstable Spatial Epistemology in Science Fiction-Detective Fiction Hybrids Available to Purchase
Orin Posner

Abstract:
This article examines the hybridization of science fiction (sf) and detective fiction (df) as a literary reflection of spatial and epistemological instability. Analyzing three contemporary sf-df hybridsβ€”China MiΓ©ville’s The City & the City (2009), Adam Roberts’s The Real-Town Murders (2017), and Malka Older’s The Mimicking of Known Successes (2023)β€”it explores how these texts use both genres to highlight the entanglement of spatial ontology (physical space) and spatial epistemology (the perception and understanding of space). Furthermore, by employing sf’s spatial novums alongside df’s spatial mysteries, these texts present spatial boundaries as malleable, open to manipulation through misinformation and conspiracy. In all three texts, the mystery plots destabilize the fictional worlds’ spatial rules, uncovering conspiracies orchestrated by figures of institutional authority. In this, the narratives reflect contemporary concerns about the erosion of trust in traditional systems of knowledge and power. This study demonstrates how sf-df hybrids engage with the precarities of space, knowledge, and power, resonating with the experiences of readers navigating an increasingly fragmented and uncertain world.
