In France, we pride ourselves on enjoying lifeβs simple pleasures: food, drink, and the occasional grand larceny. To rush through these things would not just disrupt our leisurely schedule; it would be a sin. One must savor the moment, not run from robbery to robbery like a buffoon.

If the protagonist is going to succeed, then you want to bring them closer and closer to failure. If they are going to fail, you want to bring them closer and closer to victory.

21.10.2025 12:31 β π 16 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0norms are defined by so many aspects: our culture, our age, or gender, our ethnicity, our use of technology, and our abilities. Basically every element that makes us human has an impact on what we consider a βnormβ or not.
I'm always so intrigued by conversations surrounding norms. It's often a conversation that involves someone complaining that others don't follow their norm, and no thought or consideration that everyone has their own norms. || theeddesigner.com/2024/07/18/s... #EduSky #AcademicSky #UDL

Screenshot of my article on the Science Fiction Studies journal website On the left: Volume 52, Issue 3, November 2025 Article Contents: The City & The City The Real-Town Murders The Mimicking of Known Successes Conclusion On the right: βNo One Can Admit It Doesnβt Workβ: Unstable Spatial Epistemology in Science Fiction-Detective Fiction Hybrids Available to Purchase Orin Posner Abstract: This article examines the hybridization of science fiction (sf) and detective fiction (df) as a literary reflection of spatial and epistemological instability. Analyzing three contemporary sf-df hybridsβChina MiΓ©villeβs The City & the City (2009), Adam Robertsβs The Real-Town Murders (2017), and Malka Olderβs The Mimicking of Known Successes (2023)βit explores how these texts use both genres to highlight the entanglement of spatial ontology (physical space) and spatial epistemology (the perception and understanding of space). Furthermore, by employing sfβs spatial novums alongside dfβs spatial mysteries, these texts present spatial boundaries as malleable, open to manipulation through misinformation and conspiracy. In all three texts, the mystery plots destabilize the fictional worldsβ spatial rules, uncovering conspiracies orchestrated by figures of institutional authority. In this, the narratives reflect contemporary concerns about the erosion of trust in traditional systems of knowledge and power. This study demonstrates how sf-df hybrids engage with the precarities of space, knowledge, and power, resonating with the experiences of readers navigating an increasingly fragmented and uncertain world.
New article published! Iβm so thrilled to share my article in Science Fiction Studies, included in its November 2025 issue, is now available to read online: doi.org/10.1525/sfs....
