Ten years ago I was quite good at running and I was still pretty good in 2019. However, life and injuries got in the way. The last few years have seen many false starts but 2025 felt good. I’m aiming for a half marathon in the autumn of 2026.

It was a day of joy when we removed it as a lint rule! The trivago plugin is pretty good. Keeps things tidy

You know what I appreciate after years of dev work?

A tool that saves me from unnecessary frustration. GitKraken’s been that for 4-5 years. It handles Git so well—clean visuals, easy branch management—I never felt the need to master the CLI. It just makes Git easier.

Actually found the ticket where the product owner asked to remove dark mode.

What started as a mission to clean up data turned into a deep dive into React Native—and a rewarding challenge. From wrestling with messy code to shipping better and faster, it’s been a wild ride.

If you’re moving from web to React Native, here’s my advice:
- It’s not that hard. If you know a modern web framework, you can handle this.
- Use Expo—it makes getting started and scaling so much easier.
- Don’t be afraid to clean up a mess; the payoff is worth it.

Today, we’re a smaller team but shipping more, faster, and with higher quality. We’ve removed redundancies, killed dead code, and streamlined the project. Seeing that progress has been incredibly rewarding.

This summer, we switched to Expo and EAS for the build pipeline. What a game-changer! The dev experience is much smoother, and the CI builds are rock solid now.

One of the biggest wins? Migrating the app to Tailwind. This has been a game-changer. Just this weekend, I added dark mode support to the app in 300 lines. Before I joined, dark mode had been canned because it was “too demanding” and slowed them down.
