Pentagon aggressively lobbies EU against Buy European weapons push In previously unreported remarks, the U.S. administration warned Brussels that it will retaliate if Europeans “strong-arm American companies out of the market.”

Hey, European allies, you're doing good. They're scared. Keep up the good work and don't give in.

SO MUCH FOR THE FREE MARKET, HUH DONALD?? (he never understood business anyway ....)

I like the government pivot to reminding voters that Farage is an avowed enemy of NATO & Europe & an ardent admirer of Vladimir Putin, who routinely orders the murders of critics & opponents. It is politically effective & morally essential.

Opinion: France is ditching American tech. When will Canada? Countries around the world are turning to open-sourced or domestic options, but Canada still relies on U.S. tech for critical communication software

“Paris Marx has offered a guide for how people can get off U.S. tech, highlighting the challenges while supporting individual effort. Doing so should be a national ambition, especially as we consider the risk of the U.S. blocking access to tech.”

“Jim Ratcliffe’s comments were outrageous. They are offensive and they were deeply wrong. We do have a problem in our country, and that problem is inequality. It’s not immigration.”

Ellie Chowns on #BBCQT, rejecting attempts to blame migrants for country's problems.

Is this the new “six degrees of separation?” Is there any way to prove being at least seven degrees from Epstein?

How easy or difficult if either would you find it to be in a Relationship with someone who supported the following political parties? The green party are the most favourable with 40% saying easy/fairly easy and 21% saying fairly of very difficult.

I deeply regret now being dismissive of BlackBerry back in the day. Taking the real goal here as being to reduce dependence on “American” technology I would love to see Canada and Europe unite to breathe new life into it but know the likelihood is infinitesimally small at best of that happening.

I agree, it’s difficult to choose. The pied wagtail was my choice too, though slightly ironically as they’re more often seen patrolling car parks than “green spaces”!

The irreverent Daily Express surpassing itself in stupidness with this headline, swathed in the Union flag: NEARLY 10 YEARS ON AND WE ARE STILL WAITING!
So today the paper that led the call to leave the EU says...
NOW YOU MUST GIVE BRITAIN A PROPER BREXIT

As per the statement by the scientists themselves, 85 seconds is “the closest it’s ever been” (since it was created just under 80 years ago). It used to be measured in minutes and did get to 2 minutes so smaller number but still more time.

In the morning gloom, my #FirstBirdOfTheDay was also a blackbird, sat totally still in the magnolia seemingly quietly observing the world.

Tariffs won’t be enough so whatever stronger measures European and UK governments have considered (sanctions, expel diplomats, lock down US bases, whatever), they need to pick one or preferably more - something that will really hurt - and do it now! We can’t afford to wait and see what he does next.

Various birds flying a little way off in the distance but #FirstBirdOfMyDay actually in the garden - half a dozen goldfinches in our magnolia tree.

A few starlings followed by three goldfinches - we regularly had plenty of the latter in the summer months, it’s really nice to see them back so early in 2026. #FirstBirdOfMyDay

Looking out the front bedroom window into the wider world rather than my usual downstairs back garden first morning view: A pair of cormorants flying above the rooftops.

Honestly, do you live inside a birds of Britain book? 😜 For us this morning, one jackdaw (pretty much our most regular visitors these days) but for a nice change, joined around the feeding station by a pair of blue tits.
