A large-scale JNIM attack on the Malian army base in Soumpi on 7 November became the single deadliest event of 2025 in the Tombouctou region. FAMa repelled the assault with drone strikes, killing several militants.

The escalation began on 3 November, when JNIM attacked the town of Lere, killed at least 12 civilians, and triggered the displacement of more than 2,500 people as the group enforced a siege and maintained pressure on the population.
