"In retrospect, Sandy Hook marked the end of the U.S. gun control debate,” British columnist Dan Hodges wrote in 2015. “Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”

New York Times article reads: "Mr. Zhao had pleaded guilty to money-laundering violations in 2023 and served four months in federal prison, after a yearslong investigation by financial regulators and U.S. prosecutors.

“President Trump exercised his constitutional authority by issuing a pardon for Mr. Zhao, who was prosecuted by the Biden administration in their war on cryptocurrency,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said in a statement on Thursday. “The Biden administration’s war on crypto is over.”

The pardon was the latest example of how high-profile business partners of Mr. Trump and his family have benefited from his rollback of the wide-ranging crypto crackdown orchestrated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. To seek the pardon, Mr. Zhao hired lawyers and lobbyists with ties to the Trump administration, while Binance struck a business deal with World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s crypto start-up."

“We found over 35 cases in which the judges have specifically said what the government is providing…false information. It might be intentionally false information, including false sworn declarations time and again," says Ryan Goodman, law professor at New York University.

Because this administration thinks everyone believes the rules only matter when it helps “your side” (like they do), they are counting on Comey’s unpopularity to normalize this.

Don’t let it. Whatever you think of him or his actions in the past, etc. this indictment is dangerous and an outrage.

"Yeah, it was clearly illegal, but what are going to do?" becoming the defining legal mantra of the Trump era.
All of this conditioned by SCOTUS refusing to act with any sort of urgency until the damage is done *except* when Trump asks them to jump in to facilitate the damage.

I haven't had time to read up on the latest shooting, but I'm going to post my incredibly radical position that a shooting is bad no matter who did it and no matter who was shot.

Stop trying to crack the code of a shooter's motives and focus on the one thing they all have in common -- the guns.

Don't Bring Us Into This My name is Jess and I was a high school Literature teacher for 16 years until I decided to run as a Democrat in a rural, red district in Missouri. I bring you news and politics from Missouri and beyon...

They can direct their “cooler heads” rhetoric to their people.

Tell them, not me. I don’t want to be brought into their mess. I am not violent and have never been violent, but I have frequently been the target of violent messages.

This is not our problem. jesspiper.substack.com/p/dont-bring...
