when i was a kid, animated movies were about how when you're an artsy guy, your dad thinks you're gay for wanting to draw pictures. ratatouille, cloudy with a chance of meatballs, et al. it was that or clunky metaphors for racism

I’ve said as much during story meetings. What about the children who are already isolated because they feel different. Refusing to show them they matter and deserve to be in stories we see just causes them more pain which sounds to me a lot worse than having a conversation with your kids.

I had hoped that Dead End would open the doors to more trans stories being told in animation but it mightve been part of the last gasp. For now at least. The pendulum will swing back.
