I'm slowly figuring it out. In the last couple years I've started to dip my toes into the furry music community. The sense of commodification still persists (worrying I'm not releasing music fast enough, worrying that I don't have an interesting enough virtual stage presence)

Baby steps

Maybe there's something philosophical I'm missing. Maybe I can synthesize a fursona with a multifaceted sense of self. I haven't quite figured that out yet. I think spending my teenage years on social media really fucked with viewing my very being as a commodity, something to be marketed to others.

I'm not an artist, I have no desire to be one, I rarely get the urge to get commissions except when I get pangs of envy from seeing others enjoy that mode of self-expression. I get deeply distressed over the idea of flattening myself into a 2 dimensional character that people can consume.

This articulated a lot of complex feelings I have about being a furry. I've been a furry for about 10 years now, and have always struggled to engage with the community.

Part of that is lingering anxiety from bullying, but I think part of that is how commodified the modes of social interaction feel.
