I am going to write a game in the absolute music tradition. It will be stripped of programmatic elements, it will be titled "Fantasy for Four players and Game Master", it will contain not one bit of expository text if possible. It will be raw mechanics whose interpretation is left up to the players.
The best take will always remain "don't assume your favored thing is universal" contrasted with "don't interpret what is stated as universal as a claim of such*"
*unless the writer is being real fuckin weird about it.
I didn't see a D&D till I was 16 and my first reaction was "this seems boring, I would rather play that scuffed up xcom hack my buddy wrote. That's the good shit"
My friends and I would try to make games for each other that emulated ideas we had or video games we liked. They were all a mess but they had a certain something to them.
I got my start in a space like this. At 13 and on mIRC (don't do this) I stumbled in a wild creator space with dozens of channels each trying to emulate some dimension of popular media (I landed on DBZRPG) through clunky mechanics with bot assistance.
People who start creating who reject that are rare and we should at least hear them out when they pop up. The idea of a "best practice" can exist alongside "but there's no actual right and wrong"
I think most people who want to engage in a hobby want an outline of the basics to either follow closely or even just be in dialogue with. They may eventually push against those constraints but I think it's natural to seek some kind of form
Yeah cool that's chill. Anti-structuralist manifestos are always pretty rad. I uhh... don't agree with a lot of the sub-points but the central thesis is fine: outsiders should make shit and we shouldn't be weird about that.
I haven't actually seen word 1 of the actual argument but let me guess:
Bullet points shouldn't be used in game text and instead lists of things should be done in prose.
Did I get it?
Oh wait I love that shit
My assumption is that it is banal to the point of absurdity but I just wanna peeeeeeek
*gandalf looking around gif*
Bullet points?

The thing about Cosmic Century Knights having you make antagonists together is your table will collectively come up with something way more fucked up than you ever could have on your own. Thanks @oneshotrpg.bsky.social !
I like to imagine he's been getting shit details all week, getting ridden hard for fucking up drills, messy bunk, you know typical low-rank problems and BAM he finally catches a break and he's just so excited he might get out of the doghouse
If no one's gonna do it I will
