Strongly recommend you chase this with the superb Made Men, about the making of Goodfellas.

Have always struggled with the distinction that Cuban doesn't seem like a *bad* guy as such, but has always definitely been an asshole. Something slightly pathetic as well (even by billionaire standards) in being an OG dot com bubble billionaire. We may as well "incent" lottery winners.

Batman looks into a rainy sky. He says "This is where I watched my parnets die." A second speech bubble says "*Parents." Behind him, the Teenage Mutant Turtles each say "Parnets", "Parnets", "Parnets".

Must have been amazing to be there for that moment. I can well imagine the intensity and feeling in the hall... agree, an ungenerous assessment by Ryan. A couple of those across the whole list.

I sense an anecdote...

Yes, what a career. Love Phantom Thread, but then I am a PTA ultra... Ryan's take on it seems to have riled people though, so it's not just me. I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Yes, and uncharacteristic for Ryan. I mean, PTA movies often *are* episodic, but I didn't recognise the movie at all in how he described (and dismissed) it.

Yes, I felt the same - especially about "late" Spielberg. But in the instances I've taken the plunge (Lincoln, Bridge of Spies) I've been pleasantly surprised.

Yes, absolutely. I like how many of his prΓ©cis get to the essence of the DDL performance and how that essence is often so different (bar its overwhelming and often physical nature).

AoI is superb, one of a few Marty movies that get a little lost compared to his Ultra-Marty ones. And though I quite dislike GoNY overall, I still rewatch it for the Butcher.

Yes, I like Ryan's stuff but feel he's way off beam about Phantom Thread.

An incredible list, as half of it is minor / forgettable, and half is absolute bangers that redefine the very concept of what a banger is.
