🐴As a predominantly paper and printed book archive, you might be surprised to find a wooden toy horse in our collections!

Once owned by Archbishop Randall Davidson during his childhood, this wooden horse is one of the largest artefacts we have. 🐴

Happy new year from all of us at Lambeth Palace Library! At the start of the year, we opened 1505 records from 1995, including material from the Turnbull Papers, Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, Archbishop Carey and the Church Buildings Council.

📢Lambeth Palace Library will be closed from Tuesday 23rd December until Monday 5th January.📢

There is also no Saturday opening in January, the first of these will be the 7th February.

[Gerald Eversley's Friendship, BNS 12p110]

This particular copy belonged to E.F. Benson (one of Archbishop Benson's six children) and has been interleaved and used as an album. It features 50 lively cartoons in pencil, crayon, ink and watercolour, most likely created by the 3 Benson brothers.

This hand-drawn illustration comes from Gerald Eversley's Friendship: A Study in Real Life (1895), a public school novel by J.E.C. Welldon, 1895.

Today is National Illustration Day!

CDs are on sale for £15 plus packing and postage. All proceeds from CD sales will be donated to the Friends of Lambeth Palace Library 📚
