A thread from Toby Fox. It reads: Recently there has been another surprise issue with music copyright on YouTube. YouTube is changing the way it works again, and Materia Music decided the best way to deal with this was to turn certain videos to "revenue sharing" to protect them from copyright strikes. Unfortunately, the way this change was communicated and handled publicly to creators was terrible. People were shocked by the change and I hadn't heard about it until it was already implemented. But, I have some good news... Materia Music is hiring a new person to handle YouTube copyright shenanigans. That means Sebastian Wolff will will no longer be in charge of communicating on these matters. Hopefully any other individual issues can be addressed by the new person too. About the revenue sharing situation, Materia is talking to YouTube now about the best options for creators. I have instructed them to set the split that Materia gets as low as they can possibly allow. (Right now they don't know how low that will be, but hopefully... low!) This is quite a mess now, and it might take a bit to resolve, but I'm told it will hopefully result in a better, easier environment for creators. And me, because I don't want to think about any of this stuff. I'll communicate again when we get more information.

Itd be like on another universe, street fighter was a beat em up like fighting game focused on the party aspect of beating up each other but the standard fighting games rules were used for comp and the fighting game as agenre didnt take off until the 2010s.

Platfighters often take the competitive aspect first since its whats is more likely to stay dedicated compared to the casual audience. Now sure theres stuff like good single player content that is often lacking but overall with platfighters with not a lot of budget, comp scene is often first.

There wasnt really much of those in the platfighter genre and people talk about how every platfighter is trying to copy of melee and while its a fair argument theres also in how smash is a crossover game and how its not competitive first.

Anothe thing to mention is that fighting games as a genre took off sooner than platfighters. And during the time period, sub communities formed from different types of fighting games whether it be a game in an arcade or some doujin fighter there was always a variation.

AsumSaus' new vid on Melee clones highlights why we're lucky that fighters were birthed in the arcades w/no attached IPs cuz fighters were afforded the ability to steal & iterate on each other. The genre went from SF2 -> 3S in 8 years cuz of 'clones' & short dev times. Smash is too big to challenge.
