“However, as life expectancies decline, disability increases, people notice they’re sicker more often, labour markets are impacted & people learn that ‘back to normal’ was pushed by private-sector business interests, not best practice public health” #LongCovid
“People and groups fighting for equitable democracy must challenge COVID minimization. Challenging this status quo isn’t easy.. it’s also been shown that raising counter opinions in groups, even if to ‘do good,’ can be met with hostility.” #LongCovid
For #LongCovidAwarenessDay — I know so many of us would love to see progressives start to be consistent in their progressive values:
“Governments modelling abandonment.. in time of crisis signal support to fascist, eugenicist & Nazi logic.. pandemics can give rise to fascist political economies”

If you are lucky enough to not know much about Long COVID, here’s a challenge—do your laundry, wash some dishes, put on headphones, go: 60 minutes that might help you or a loved one at least advocate for yourselves one day.

And because public health institutions are generally terrible at communicating about COVID and Long COVID, many people don’t even know their “weird health issues” that never resolved or popped up a few months later might be because of their COVID infections.
If you know 9 people in Canada, at least 1 of them has it.
If you guessed Long COVID, you’d be right.
~10% of people in Canada have Long COVID, an illness which can be brutal & also crushingly lonely
(If you guessed diabetes you’d also be right but people don’t pretend that doesn’t exist)
Covid activists don't ask people to mask because we're wokescolds or purity testing.
We are genuinely trying to save y'all from a life of disability. From losing everything you thought mattered most to you. We are trying to help y'all help yourselves before it's too late ❤️.
Punching practice with riolu! 👊
The irony that the people who don’t mask in order to be accepted by society and their social circles—knowing they’ll be shunned for masking because they shun those who mask—will end up abandoned by society and their social circles when they inevitably get Long Covid because they don’t mask.
And we can take this moment, where we start to notice Long Covid is a still-growing problem from a still-active pandemic and say, “What can we do to reverse this trend?” We can ask, “Who else have we excluded & how can we be more inclusive?” Or we can just yell “I have to live my life!” & ignore it.
“COVID-19 really has had a profound impact in terms of long-lasting symptoms that affect all kinds of different parts of the body, at a much higher rate than we usually see from other viruses,”
i think these good girls have some similar energy which idk how to put into words but i love them sososooso much
On #LongCovidAwarenessDay — I think the most important thing to understand is that it’s still happening:
“I got COVID for a 3rd time in 2025 (I'm vaxed, boosted & took paxlovid)... Boom #LongCovid. Can't climb due to PEM. I haven't climbed in almost a year.”
“COVID… is still causing disability.“
Amazing how we’ve collectively just decided COVID isn’t a big deal anymore
My ER RN daughter told me in Nov 2020 that they were seeing a lot of previously healthy patients who'd had mild COVID return w pulmonary embolisms. Their heart attacks & strokes were not counted as C deaths. Most were in their 30s-40s.
They knew this then. There's even more data now.
It’s been a while since I talked about it, so just a reminder that a scant few years before fascism destroyed my career in research, Long Covid destroyed my career as a social worker and pushed me to retire from domming too. I could not be on my feet for more than a few minutes.
there's a persistent myth that if there is a disaster and we acknowledge the disaster is real, people will panic and act out and destroy society with fear.
the plague destroys people even when no one shows any fear of it.
You may want it to be over. You’re being told it’s over. Everyone is acting as if it’s over. You may ridicule people who are cautious and not “over it.” But IT IS NOT OVER.
Please listen to the people whose lives have been upended by ME/CFS: You do NOT want even a mild version of this.
It takes relatively little disability to make the rest of the world consider you “disposable.” They won’t say it out loud, but their actions are clear. #DisabilityJustice #LongCovid

I will never stop reminding people that until June 6th, 2024, H5N1 was classified as a Select Agent by the US government. Now birds who have died as a result of infection with it are, it seems, just being buried in a pit on a beach. This is a huge biorisk.
