At that point, we had been at work for nearly 4 hours and he’s done 20 minutes worth of work. Just keeps walking around to each person individually and telling them a different story. Foreman is doing the same. No wonder it’s been years since we had a job leave on schedule.

Average conversation with a western PA metal worker. Let me set the scene:

I’m loading tubes during the entire convo. Walking roughly 8 feet back and forth. As he’s following me. Mind you i can’t talk because of a rough cough. I didn’t say a word during any of this.

Final update of the day. They turned their music on so I can’t hear the convo. BUT only myself and one other guy are working. I think you can guess who the other guy is. If your blue collar man ever says he works hard, don’t believe him 😂

That lasted two minutes. All but one have reconvened around the foreman’s table. Never mind that one joined back in as I typed that.

Update: movement spotted. Everyone got up and went to their respective work areas. Yet no one is actually doing anything.

I should note that I’m leisurely working. I’m not the type to sit still or chat with these folks. But I’m not gonna bust my ass while no one else does. Doing some tig welding. So I can listen in on the convos. Been at this place for three years. This is their normal.

Highlight of yesterday’s convos: they’re convinced Michelle Obama has a wang. (Surprised that one is still circulating). Due to a poorly photoshopped / ai video of her dancing. The bulge literally teleports for like 5 frames. I just laughed and said “yall will fall for anything won’t ya?”
