They need to be taxed HEAVILY. I’m not saying it’s not nice that some give to charity but then you have to be their pet cause and of course, when money is involved, it’s hard not to make decisions based on what you think will keep the source of the money happy.

As a former struggling poor kid, I can attest to the importance of public and school libraries. Children need access to books and the books being targeted are often the most needed. Make sure you are paying attention to your local government.

Yeah I feel like the focus really wasn’t on the government in the first book. It felt like it helped them to get to that point but at least didn’t seem to be a big concern on their journey north.

I’m reading it now too and I feel the same. Both feel very realistic but flipped in order. I’m not too far in yet though.

I think life requires a lot of cognitive dissonance and it can be hard to express how freeing veganism actually feels. It doesn’t feel like giving something up at all (at least that is my experience).

Man, you saying you wanted something cozy and warm made me try to think of the last light book I read so I filtered for lighthearted in StoryGraph and it’s all Terry Pratt and Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Which I’d recommend if you haven’t gotten around to it

Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.
