So if I’m reading this right, there are fewer deaths from COVID reported to the WHO worldwide, but the vast majority are in the US.

I don’t think even Kim Stanley Robinson saw this kind of environmental-science destruction as fast as they are doing it. This is insane.

I sense you believe that in our modern world if we head towards authoritarianism we are stuck there. I am not that pessimistic.

I look to South America as an example-Chile and Brazil were both under the thumb of authoritarian regimes but over time were able to overcome them - painfully, and over decades. Planning matters. And this is not new for minorities in the US.

PPS please definitely use this in lectures! It’s an awful ad, for all the reasons you note. I think the pushback from some folks is we are seeing a purposeful distraction from the Epstein controversy that was opening the eyes of middle America voters.

PS it is a little weird that they ran this ad during the Epstein controversy saga with the actor who not only looks like all the underage girls did then, but who actually played a 15 year old forced into an arranged marriage in handmaid’s tale. There’s whole thing is ick ick ick.
