I was in school in Philadelphia in the '70's during the energy crunch. They tried staying on DST past the normal time to try to save energy. Kids were walking to school in the dark and more than one were hit by cars. They reversed the policy and went back to standard time.

I'm not a morning person by any stretch but I love going back to standard time in the fall because without it, I'd be getting up in the pitch dark. And that is damn near impossible for me.
A lot depends on how far north you live. I'm in NE near the Canada border.
