It's telling, for example, that the architects of Project 2025 have blamed falling birth rates on "harmful over-consumption of schooling."

They want to go back to a time when college was only for wealthy White men. Because that will make the rest of the population easier to manipulate with misinformation and easier to force into unpaid care roles (women) or underpaid manual labor jobs that remain as more jobs get AI-ed (men).

I went to a dinner maybe in June with a dude who works on Wall Street. I'm old so I'm not talking about 22 year olds who are analysts.

He said then they're still making money. They won't intervene until they stop seeing opportunities to make money.

I think the use of chatbots for stuff like this is intended to train people to use it to avoid everything that’s painful or hard. It can write the obituary, the breakup text, the complaint letter. It’s meant to separate humans from their difficult feelings. Seems bad.

We know Trump lies all the time, but it feels important that reporters covering his politicization of employment data make sure to point out that even his stated reasons are bullshit!

It's been rainy and cold so far for us, so I'm guessing September will be much nicer. But we've really enjoyed the Australia Museum, the Hyde Park Barracks, and for coffee shops, Tenacious Bakery on Oxford St.

This is such a great point. Instead of building to match society's needs we instead just overload it and say deal with it, mostly out of spite of ppl possibly getting benefits they don't deserve. End result is BS austerity.

Neoliberalism's core assumption is that societies don't need safety nets, because people can take care of themselves. But that just incentivizes people to push the work of care downstream onto women. And to prevent them from having the kind of power to push it back.

During the month of June, the Trump administration created a paltry 14,000 jobs. In May it was 19,000

Those two months together would've been equal to one awful week during the Biden administration

Krugman: This is, by the way, [what] standard autocratic regimes are known for. In some ways, among their first targets are statistical agencies because they want the numbers to say what they want the numbers to say.

How have you been impacted by the changes we've seen under the current administration? What would you want to say to those in charge?

I'm launching a new research initiative to collect and share anonymous stories of the human toll. And I'd be very grateful for your help.
