23.11.2025 22:42 — 👍 24 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0One other point I didn't make here: Allies like Britain believe the US is carrying out illegal bombings. Who are we effing kidding? Of course its reasonable to think Trump is issuing illegal orders! Why is this being treated as such a controversial suggestion?

I'm afraid it's quite possible that both melania and donald are already being their best. That's it. They cannot be any better than this.

22.11.2025 18:09 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I don't mean to deny, however, that it's white voters who bear the blame for this damage. I'm just not convinced it's quickly reversible.
22.11.2025 18:07 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I don't think this is true in international relations.
By dumping trump in 2020 and then restoring him to the presidency in '24, American voters gave allies plenty of reason to decide that the US is an unreliable partner. I don't think that damage can be undone quickly. Maybe not in my lifetime.
I have no sympathy for this guy. All the HOA documents were conveyed to him between signing a contract and settlement. If he didn't know what the HOA would be like, it's his own f****** fault.
I think buying into an HOA and then flouting it is a particularly detestable kind of self-importance.
With apologies to my sister-in-law, whom I love, #BeatYale.
22.11.2025 15:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yeah, it's an accident of the calendar that has caused American Jews to contort Hanukkah into some kind of Christmas manqué (and then caused non-Jews to think that's what Hanukkah is).
Deeply ironic for this to happen to a holiday focused (in part, at least) on the consequences of assimilation.
My neighbor already has his garish, whole-house, blue-and-white-lights Hanukkah display up.
Hanukkah is a minor holiday. It's literally categorized as a "minor festival."
And it won't start for another 4 weeks.
NYT opinion piece by Maureen Dowd is titled "Piggy Gets Polite."
The headline ALMOST got me to click on this #NYT opinion piece.
Fortunately, the byline stopped me. I'll bet it was the right decision. Not-reading Maureen Dowd usually works out well for me.
Socialism is what they called public power.
Socialism is what they called social security.
Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.
Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

"She's carefully timing her departure just 1-2 days after her pension kicks in and after making millions of dollars insider trading stocks for weapons manufacturers and others while in office."
I don't hate HOAs, but people do, and I think I do understand why.
It takes a lot of really bad behavior to make your #HOA look like the good guy, but this guy in Alexandria, VA, has managed to do it.
I have a neighbor almost as bad as this guy.
