Two soldiers in civvies working in a very 1990s style British Forces Post Office. This was absolutely essential work to keep soliders connected to their families. The RLC take on this role today. Of particular interest is the British Forces version of the Post Office sign which is on display in the background.

At the front of the museum is a big glass building which is the first thing visitors see on arrival. Our Collections Crew have put a concrete lion in there, temporarily, whilst they arrange his next move. This is fine. However, they have positioned the fella so that his bumhole (I'm sorry, there's no delicate way of phrasing that) is facing visitors. The first thing you see on visiting our museum, is a lion's bumhole. The photo is of said bumhole, proudly on display.
Might have a word with the Collections Team about how they store their recent acquisitions whilst waiting for conservation... (check the alt text for a detailed synopsis of this situation)

A museum display case with a model of Dougal the dog from the Magic Roundabout in it. For anyone who hasn't seen the fever dream that was the Magic Roundabout, Dougal is turbo cute and is basically a tube, with long, flowing, strawberry blonde hair, a big black nose and a red nose.
Love a hovercraft. Meet Dougal, on display in our museum because he was the mascot of 200 Hovercraft Squadron, Royal Corps of Transport. They adopted him because he glides along the ground, much like a hovercraft π

The picture really has very little to do with the post but if you don't have a picture, no one will look. It shows our black Rolls Royce (Monty's Rolls from D-Day) on the grass outside the museum. Our WW2 DUKW is in a glass building in the background. We're put the Heritage Open Days bunting and branding on it. Sky is blue, grass is green, it's a fine photo.

Just a load of ties. I have no idea why we have so many ties. They all have a meaning. On the left are RLC ones (RLC ties, RLC association ties, RLC officers club ties...) and then on the right are Royal Corps of Transport ties and out of shot are RASC, RAOC, RPC and ACC ties... honestly we have an actual tie guide book so we all know what we are looking at and what we are selling. It is awesome.

A picture of our museum in which we look AWESOME. Like seriously very very cool. There are two, count them, two rainbows over the building, the sky is brooding, the sun is catching the badge on the museum and our iconic black box of a building looks super slay. Legit.

A black and white photo of a tank and an elephant. The elephant has two riders, one in military uniform. At least four people in uniform are watching the elephant from the tank (which is behind the elephant) and other soldiers are watching in the background.
It's #InternationalElephantDay π This picture is in our digital archive without caption so I can only go by what I am seeing...but I assume this is a photo of a very slow race. My money is on the elephant.

A First World War steam powered tractor with caterpillar tracks that is in an unforunate predicament, having crashed into a ditch. This thing can roll over barges, but has buried itself nose deep. Several Army chaps are stood on or near it in poses suggesting that they are all mentally scratching their heads about how to a) explain and b) fix this one. It is a mess...much like our craft area. lol.

A yellow taxidermy dog in a museum display case. His nose looks...odd. Squashed in from the sides perhaps. It looks more like a pointy snoot with a black hole at the end, than a normal dog face.

A museum display in the centre of which is a real old school 8 inch floppy disc. I am old enough to remember these and now I feel bad. Please don't tell the people that I work with, I have pretending to be cool for some time and I think this might blow my cover.
If you know what this is, you might be old. Wear it as a badge of honour π
And if you don't recognise it, this is an eight inch floppy disc that was used with military computers to track supplies and distribution. This one could store a whole 80 kilobytes of data.

A military badge showing a stylised yellow lion on a black background. In front of the lion is a shape not dissimilar to the 'poop' emoji but is in actual fact a little stylised pagoda.
It is a miniature pagoda...it is not what you think it is.
This is the badge of the Chindit units who were active in Burma in the Second World War. On the left is a 'Chinthe' (Burmese for 'lion') from which the units took their name, and on the right is a little pagoda.

Feeling #hot, wish we were here π§
Where was this wonderful #iceberg photo taken you ask? This shot was taken onboard the QE2, during the voyage to the #Falklands in 1982. The ship's carpets were protected with 2,000 sheets of hardboard and soldiers were asked to wear civilian shoes whilst on board.
