The nearest book to us has neither a page 34...nor any actual page numbers π« It is however a ripping read about the history of Worthy Down (which is where we are, legit) I suppose technically some might say it is a pamphlet...
π @barnsleymuseums.bsky.social just blew us out of the water and we don't mind at all, this is a really nice object which tells an important story π«‘
Oh hello @barnsleymuseums.bsky.social, sorry we're late. Not quite a bowl...not quite not a bowl...please accept these WW1 mess tins as our contribution to #MuseumSuperbowl 26. Comes with a tea diffuser because OF COURSE IT DOES π
Took me hours, think I might get sacked for spending work time on puzzles...worth it
9/10 π We will take that π @royalhampsmuseum.bsky.social also have a Cuneo with a mouse but theirs has a lot more blood in it...
Just remember @romanpalace.bsky.social... you asked for this. There is a mouse in this painting. It's a Cuneo (IYKYK). Clue is in the alt text. Good luck π
Today seems a timely day to mention the humble DUKW - amphibious, ambitious, amazing. Launched in WW2, these absolute workhorses ferried men and machinery from ship to shore, deflating their tyres to gain traction in the soft intertidal areas before self-reinflating for firmer ground.

Hang in there folks, I know it all feels a but uphill, but we have almost made it to the end of January π
Today is the 125th anniversary of the Death of Queen Victoria. During her 63-year reign, the British Army transformed the way it supplied and supported operations across a global empire β moving from uniformed civilians, to permanent, professional logistical corps.

Apparently it is #RubberDuckDay - who knew! The Museum was taken over by rubber ducks in 2024 in honour of the arrival of our WW2 DUKW - Crispy.

We reopen for 2026 tomorrow morning, Tueday 13th January, at 9.30am. Free entry, excellent history, mediocre cafe - put us on your 2026 visit list ;)
Excellent upcoming talk at the museum all about *checks notes* throwing things out of planes π Find out about the first 110 years of Air Despatch from Lieutenant Colonel Chris Stuart on January 29th.

We have been inspired by @zslofficial.bsky.social to undertake a stocktake of the animals in our care.
We still have just the one π
Happy New Year Tiney the Dog.

Happy *checks notes* #UnsolicitedDuckPicDay - here's ours π
*Runs out to get the photo of the #museum in the snow that will sustain our socials throughout the next five winters*
Merry Christmas Barnsley, see you next year
Ooo #ChristmasColours is the phrase of the day π And here, dressed like the little drummer boy himself (because every women with a newborn wants a child to play drums in the nursery...) is an Officer of the Royal Waggon Train. Festive and fetching.

Whatsapp from the Museum Director:
The cafe is closing early next Tuesday so that Santa can attend the Christmas party.
*Santa is the name of the nice lady who runs the cafe. I cannot tell you how long it took the staff team to remember that and understand the message.

Day 11 on the #ArchiveAdventCalendar and the theme is #DarkNights π
This photo was taken during Op Herrick in Afghanistan and shows the grit of logistics soldiers during operational conditions.
Are Christmas wishes 'warm' because she's brought them with her from hell?

Tags @wakefieldmuseums.bsky.social again - look at these NICE cats Wakefield, one of them even has a job to support his family πββ¬
ChatGPT saw something in your original image that I did not see...and it has made it sentient. It has a face. Why are there now two haunted things in this image? I am shooketh.
I wasn't planning on doing a huge amount of busy work next week - shall we throw the last working week of the year over to #MuseumsDoChristmas? I checked that hashtag Barnsley, it's all good.
This is a plausible theory - check your archive, I imagine the evidence is there though it may have been covered up πββ¬
π
Tagging @wakefieldmuseums.bsky.social so that they can see what a cute card looks like...in comparison to the eldritch horrors they have posted.
Oh wow.... Happy Christmas kids, Father Christmas bought you a pack of smokes.
The dead birds!!!! We thought our Hitler card was perhaps 'of its time' but no, Wakefield throws down the 'dead bird' gauntlet π
