On Thursday 31 of July the MOVIE group together with collaborating scientists departed from Reykjavik aboard the R/V Pelagia @niozsearesearch.bsky.social to kick off the NEREIDES expedition.

In just a few weeks, the MOVIE group sets sail on a 1-month research cruise aboard the R/V Pelagia in the Atlantic Ocean!
Our equipment is packed and shipped, and the count down has officially begun as we get ready to join the NEREIDES cruise. Stay tuned for updates ⛴️ 🌊🦠

Linn Ødegaard Yttrelid successfully defended her master thesis exploring Community dynamics of Symbiodiniaceae and Bacteria in reef-building corals!

📌 New publication in mSystems @asm.org reveals that jellyfish blooms may serve as significant hotspots and potential vectors for the transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in marine environments.

New project funded by the Austrian Science Fund:
Gerhard J. Herndl, in collaboration with Tinkara Tinta (Marine Biology Station Piran), will study the microbiome in jellyfish 🪼 bloom life cycles. The three-year FWF-funded project starts on May 1, 2025.
