The City seems to agree with AES that residential customers - that's you and me - should be even MORE responsible for their profits.
This report is dense and complicated, so I'm sure there are more outrages here - but I'm already furious.

The City just agreed to settle with AES to let them raise your rates by 6.51% - a higher percentage than the increase for commercial or industrial customers.

The Office of Utility Consumer Counselor and Citizens Action Coalition refused to settle with AES on their request for a rate increase.

The City Council unanimously asked AES to withdraw its case.

But Joe Hogsett and the City of Indianapolis decided to make a separate peace.

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Indianapolis just agreed to settle with AES, accepting a 6.51% rate increase for residential customers.

Totally ignoring the unanimous resolution from the City-Count Council just last week!

I definitely think we should be encouraging more public transit and should be much more openly fighting bad governance at the Statehouse. I also think the CIB should do more to fund the city, as they are the entity that is allowed to collect hotel and food and beverage taxes!

Ft. Wayne did end up buying the water utility assets, it looks like. I don't think they were successful at arguing an eminent domain right, and I think they tried that tactic AFTER negotiations stalled, rather than as a first attempt.

Could you link me to that analysis? I'd love to read it to be sure my info is correct.

Under state law, we can't take it by way of eminent domain.

But I'm exploring whether we could use revenue bonds to offer to buy it!

We need to try to take IPL by way of eminent domain NOW.
