To give y'all an idea, it sounded like @dustinholman.bsky.social was talking from the other side of a long hallway & I had the microphone 1 mm from my mouth. I think I name dropped Mack Browns older/less successful brother Watson, who was TTU's HC at the time. Probably best that it wasn't our 1st ep

Technically, we did preview the Tennessee Tech FB season opener in 2015 but the audio was so comically bad we never released it & our first official episode was that game's recap/the Louisville preview.

We're doing our first pawd on a Monday night since last football season & this marks our 10th year of doing football season preview episodes, and it never get less enjoyable (even in years that projected to be less enjoyable ones than this upcoming one). Time flies!

Not directed at Spencer here, but crazy to think one high school program had both D'Eriq King and Kyle Trask in the same grade.

They have been historically, though weirdly enough they had Rice's number under the last HC who was otherwise pretty bad.

@seanmcarroll.bsky.social I just finished 'The Big Picture' and though I am just one man, I wanted to let you know it was a really interesting and eye opening read.

UH defeated Rice 4-1 in last night's preseason scrimmage. All the usual caveats about preseason results apply, but that was an eye opening result. UTSA on the road in the actual opener next week will be a good test of how much progress HC Williams has made in the offseason.

There were 4 off court things Kat wanted to get done soon after taking the UH job:

- Playsight stream & cameras for all 6 main courts ✅
- A local facility w/indoor courts for practices during bad weather ✅ (Sweetwater CC)
- A dedicated grad assistant for the program ✅
- New, resurfaced courts ✅

Speaking of really exciting stuff, UH HC Kat Adamovic just dropped the new UH tennis court designs! Getting new, re-surfaced courts was one of Kat's top priorities on taking this job & its cool to see that coming to fruition.

Today was the end of Petja's run in the W15 Slovenske Konjice tournament, but she was the last unseeded player standing and really played some fantastic tennis in her home country before she begins the semester later this month 🫡

6-6. I could see 7-8 wins if the O Line and Defense are slightly better than my preseason expectations.

Granted, nice words don't win matches and UH soccer has historically been a hard job, but Williams has already done more to engage the fan base at large than his predecessor.

ICYMI: Drame joins UH after 2 seasons with mid-major tennis power FIU where she had a 17-11 combined singles record.

If you want more context here: this is a low level pro event but a pro event nonetheless and Drame just getting to the main draw here is a big deal, and she soundly beat an opponent who's the equivalent of at least a very good Big 12 singles player.

Cool UH tennis offseason news! Incoming UH junior Petja Drame is having a great tournament @ the ITF's W15 Slovenske Konjice event in her home country of Slovenia. Drame won her 2 qualifiers matches earlier this week & today defeated the tournament's #3 player (world #763) Gaia Squarcialupi 6-3, 6-4

UCF definitely has some strong sports (the country club sports and bat & ball sports have both been punchy for at least some of the last 2 yrs) and WVU also had some really strong ones (you could make a case for them being the best in both baseball and WBB). Cincy? No idea lol.

Would also venture to guess 4⭐setter recruit Tenesyn Frye could rotate with Scully as HC David Rehr has historically liked using 2 setters.

Replacing all-American libero Kate Georgiades & both of your regular Setters (incl foundational player Annie Cooke) is challenging, but UH brings in 5⭐libero recruit Gillian Pitts (+ return veteran rotation player Alana Torres-Rivera) & bring in 3-time all-America East setter Lottie Scully @ Setter.

Between the 3 regular/emeritus co-hosts I think we differ a bit on exactly how good we believe Cougar volleyball will be, but getting Kellen Morin back after missing '24 hurt & having experience/high end recruits across the board will equate to a better than 11th finish.

The Big 12 is an extremely good volleyball league, but 11th for the Coogs is bulletin board material.
