We'll take a fun look at where AI started, and see what previous attempts at AI booms can tell us about where we're going with generative AI right now.
Drs. Newell and Simon predict that in 10 years, a digital computer will be the world's chess champion - "unless the rules bar it from competition," they add with a smile.
But one certainty is that the type of intelligence computers will acquire will depend on where there's money to be made. Martin said that within 10 years there may be a computer that can play chess better than the present world champion "but nobody's really working on it very seriously."
Predictions about AI from 1958 versus 1984 (at least the 1984 one ended up being close to true).

From a data science/ML perspective, I feel like so much of the discussion is dominated by genAI that there is also not enough space for open source work in this area to get a platform right now.
πβ¨β―EuroPython just ended.
In many hallway chats and community organisers open space, one issue came up again and again: Sponsorship.
Now that AI is taking the spotlight, Iβm asking: Who's left behind?
