Around 2012 or 2013, I went to this wholesale distributor place for comic shops in the valley to drop off some posters, and they also dealt in vintage toys. They had a giant box of carded Playmates figures and the guy was like, "We can't get rid of those, we'll probably just toss them."

But it took a very long time to finally see a rerun where he was in his Special Jacket.

And then I got back into the show around this time ('92/'93) because they started showing it in reruns every day after Batman, and because all the nerdy middle school kids were into it.

My personal history with TNG was that I watched it regularly with my dad and older brother for the first two years or so, then kinda stopped paying for a while, and suddenly saw this figure and was like, "Why does he has a weird blue shirt? What's going on here?"

For some reason Playmates Toys made him in this look years before making an action figure in his normal look.
