Artifical wetland creation on farm. Iris field now floods in winter, main drain blocked in 5 places. In fen two ponds dug out. Wetland creation on farms is the easiest and cheapest thing you can do to improve biodiversity...

Government's priority is to maintain nitrates derogation at all costs, water quality/biodiversity is an afterthought.....

Photo on left is of annual cornflower mix, not much good for biodiversity. Golf fairway is probably a fescue monoculture, not much good for biodiversity either.

Corncrake declining in Ireland/UK for over a hundred years unfortunately. The introduction of the horse drawn mowers was the main start of decline

INHFA complaining about NPWS buying land (tiny amounts) for conservation. One of those sites in Belmullet is an important corncrake breeding site, mushroom factory site where spent mushroom compost was dumped....

Corncrake centre-out mowing. First cut silage, probably the latest in the country. Saw a very late corncrake in the nettles before mowing started. Mowing is definitely the most stressful day in the year

Biggest effect on fox numbers in Poland has been the eradication of rabies through vaccination.

The more stakeholders you have, the more difficult it is to achieve good environmental outcomes, unfortunately.

Heather Humphreys promised to learn Irish 11 years ago when she was appointed Minister for Arts, Heritage, regional and ruarl affairs and the Gaeltacht in 2014.... She didn't do much then, but I'm sure the promise she is making now is more sincere.....

100% commitment from Corncrake Life project team is a major reason for increase in corncrake numbers

Definitely a vector for transmission. For example mineral licks for cattle in buckets left out in pasture for cattle. Badgers love the molasses mineral licks and then cattle lick the buckets = transmission....

Maim garden pond (4m) looking near what a natural pond would look like! Yellow rattle spreading around the grassy margins, so hopefully next year, the grass will not be as heavy.

Putting more funding into results based agri-environmental schemes to improve farmland biodiversity would improve image more than more funding for propaganda campaigns. There seem to be endless Ag PR campaigns....

Government more worried about retaining nitrates derogation than actual water quality/biodiversity....
