I refuse to believe 'previously easy searches for basic information about how anything works are becoming less reliable' and 'AI chatbots that spit out wrong, but often flattering answers to questions about powerful people have high valuation on the stock market' is a coincidence.

Time and again historians want to attribute the collapse of a civilization to famine or war, colossal things outside anyone's control, but in our case it's literally going to be 'rich people didn't want to pay taxes' that's it, that's America's epitaph.

Now, you might think pointing an angry mob at scientists, modern medicine, and other things that mitigate, say, global pandemics seems pretty stupid...

...because it is incredibly stupid. But despite their wealth, we're not dealing with geniuses here, which breaks people's brains for some reason.

RW politics are generally very, very good at protecting capital, and I think the reason society in general feels like it's crumbling rn is because oligarchs have scapegoated just about literally everyone and everything at this point.
