For any folks yet to hear the heartbreaking news, Wes Ambrose, one of the greatest friends the White Water Tavern has ever known, passed on to the other side last Thursday, October 9th. The most important thing to know about Wes is that he loved his precious wife Mimi more than anything in the universe, and that she treasured him equally so. To witness their love for one another is an inexhaustible supply of inspiration. Wes started hanging at the White Water back in the early 70's when it was still just a ramshackle joint called The Pitcher. He witnessed every iteration of the White Water in the ensuing years, becoming one of its most profound historians and greatest ambassadors along the way. If you've grabbed a handful of candy out of the silver bowl on your way out of the door, it's because Wes personally refilled it on a weekly basis, a long standing tradition he inherited years ago. Wes loved music. He loved his friends and kindly welcomed strangers to our little corner of the world. He always told it like it is. Wes helped to guide us through so much over the last twenty years and we will love and miss him forever. A big celebration of life will be held here at 2pm on Sunday, October 26th. Come raise a Budweiser in honor of this sweet man. Any memories of Wes are welcome here. We love you, Wes. We love you, Mimi. Thank you.

Today! Arkansas Community Advocates and a Food Not Bombs Potluck ft live performances from STEPHANIE SMITTLE, WHATEVER THIS IS, and a sing a long w/ CORNBREAD & ROSES * 6pm-10Pm * Tickets available for $10 at www.whitewatertavern.com

A native of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Stephanie Smittle is a singer and songwriter whose history of engagements includes singing ancient chant in reverberant cathedrals, composing gender-flipped murder ballads in the freak folk tradition, and premiering new art songs by living composers for the recital hall. Her self-titled debut solo album is a collection of ten songs for voice and electric autoharp, which the Arkansas Democrat Gazette called “folk rock from outer space … a stunning self-titled solo debut” from “a skilled and observant lyricist unafraid to express vulnerability and rage and wonder.”

Whatever This Is consists of husband and wife duo, Matt Manges (keys) and Annie Ford (guitar); along with neighbor Garrett Zuhoski (drums). WTI's songs span from serene meditations on nature, to bombastic rock songs full of psychedelic themes and three part harmonies. If you like to listen to the same song over and over, you might not like this band.

Belgian blues great GHALIA VOLT returns to the White Water for an awesome night of music this Thursday, October 9th! Advance tickets for this 8pm show are available for $15 at www.whitewatertavern.com

Ghalia Volt is a Belgian blues rock singer, guitarist, drummer and songwriter. Six years have passed since Volt quit the busking circuit of her native Brussels for the heady throb of New Orleans, where she made her first ripples as the livewire frontwoman of local heroes Mama’s Boys. That hook-up led to Volt’s acclaimed debut album Let The Demons Out (declared “an irresistible force” by Classic Rock) and to Volt’s next stepping stone, to the hill country of Coldwater, Mississippi, for sessions with the Southern state’s Cody Dickinson, Watermelon Slim and Cedric Burnside on 2019’s Mississippi Blend. That album saw Volt dubbed “a natural-born star” by Henry Yates (NME, Classic Rock, The Guardian) and broke into the Billboard Blues Chart Top 3 on three separate occasions.

Belgian blues sensation GHALIA VOLT returns to the White Water for a red hot show on Thursday, October 9th ✨Tickets available for $15 at www.whitewatertavern.com

Ghalia Volt is a Belgian blues rock singer, guitarist, drummer and songwriter.

Joshua Tree, California. A place where rock ‘n’ roll mythology is made, for better and worse. It was under these same burnished skies that Gram Parsons’ stolen body was set ablaze. Where U2 announced their bid for global infamy. And as Ghalia Volt reminds us, exactly thirty years ago, it was here that near-mythical producer and Queens of The Stone Age conspirator David Catching founded the fabled Rancho De La Luna studio that would bring a stream of dust-blown musicians to his door like moths to a candle.

“Going to the desert to record Shout Sister Shout! with David,” says the acclaimed Belgian singer-songwriter of her latest album that adds its own thumbprint to the Rancho De La Luna legend, “was something unique.”

Tickets are selling swiftly for the Dylan Earl record release show this Friday, October 3rd / special guests Jude Brothers & May The Peace of the Sea Be With You ✨ In addition to all of the great music, Megan Karson will be in town making beautiful tintype portraits, and a host of local mutual aid organizations will be set up spreading the good word. "Among the artists rising up from the fertile twang-fields of Northwest Arkansas, Dylan Earl might just make the music that goes down the smoothest…”

Born in Louisiana and naturalized by the Natural State, Dylan Earl seeks to understand himself by understanding others. His music offers poignant nostalgia, land history, and a refreshingly progressive approach to country and western.

Sharing stages with other fan favourites like Esther Rose, labelmate Nick Shoulders, Judy Blank, Emily Nenni, Teddy & The Roughriders, Rattlesnake Milk and The Deslondes across the USA and the EU/UK, Earl has honed his performance and craft for nearly a decade.

Jude Brothers is an Arkansas forged and New Mexico molded folksy leaning singer songwriter with a penchant for whimsy and tender heartedness.

Brothers’ distinct writing style is marked by congenial contrasts: passionate & playful, calculated & relaxed, approachable & quirky.

Mark Linskey of New Jersey punk rock n roll giants, The Hudson Falcons, will be in the house to play a FREE show this Wednesday, October 1st. Our dear friend kicks off at 8pm!

Forming in New Jersey in the late '90s, the Hudson Falcons chase a creative trail assembled halfway on the roots of punk rock fixed by bands like the Clash and the intense marks of pure rock & roll acts like Bruce Springsteen. Led by Mark Linskey, the Falcons started conquering a loyal legion of fans from the very start of their operations due to their crushing live performances.

We are typically closed on Mondays nights, but will never turn down the opportunity to host a show with the great Sunny War, who is heading in this Monday, September 29th 💥 Showtime 8pm * Tickets @ www.whitewatertavern.com

“…her right thumb plunks the bass part while her forefinger upstrokes notes and chords, leaving the other three fingers unused. A banjo technique, it’s also used by acoustic blues guitarists. Her fingers are long and strong – Robert Johnson hands – in jarring contrast to the waif they’re attached to. The walking bass line sounds like a hammer striking piano keys in perfect meter, while the fills are dynamic flurries – like cluster bombs. I haven’t heard a young guitarist this dexterous and ass-kicking in eons.” - Michael Simmons, L.A Weekly

The Chris DeClerk band is heading to the Water Water for a record release show this Saturday night, September 27th 💥 Show starts at 8pm and tickets are available at www.whitewatertavern.com

"Chris DeClerk has been part of Little Rock’s jam-oriented scene for years, but Week Long Dreamer shows him honing that loose, improvisational energy into songs that feel both intimate and expansive. With layered instrumentation from session musicians and a new local backing band, he blends acoustic warmth with electric exploration.

Influenced by the collaborative, nature-soaked spirit of the West Coast, Chris writes with vulnerability—turning everyday life into music that invites you to lean in. Week Long Dreamer asks for your attention and rewards it with heart, depth, and open-ended possibility." - Barret Flagg

Tonight. "The Life & Poetry of Frank Stanford," author James McWilliams in conversation on his new biography. Stanford poetry readings courtesy of Bill Willett, Jessica Maxwell, Katy Montgomery, Preston Head & more. Liam Fast will kick the night off with a song at 8pm. Free. Kitchen closed. See you there.

"James McWilliams treats the lightning-flash, tempestuous life of Frank Stanford with verve, unremitting probity, and compassion. This astute, much-needed biography of a genuine American literary prodigy-a rambunctious southern visionary and iconoclast too often relegated to the back of the canon-is never anything less than essential and riveting"
-CYRUS CASSELLS, 2021

"At the time of Frank Stanford's untimely death in 1978, he seemed to be on the cusp of canonical status. Yet, almost fifty years later, except to a modest cirele of devoted read-ers, his unique voice has remained relatively unknown. James McWilliams's meticulously researched, candid biography, The Life and Poetry of Frank Stanford, should go a long way towards remedying that."

The phenomenally talented McKinly James and his flawless band return to the White Water for an amazing night of rock n roll this Thursday, September 25th 💥 These guys always sound awesome up in here. Discounted advance tickets available for $10 at www.whitewatertavern.com

McKinley James is equal parts old soul and modern man. Armed with an electric guitar and sharp songwriting chops, he breathes new life into classic sounds with Working Class Blues, a debut album that introduces his mix of American rock & roll, amplified soul, and raw rhythm & blues.

It's a sound powered by groove and guitar. A sound that's been sharpened by countless shows — from dive bar residences in Nashville to headlining gigs across Europe — and rooted in the shared bloodline of McKinley and his longtime bandmate: father Jason Smay. Together, they rewrite the rulebook for blues-inspired rock duos, creating a lean, honest version of American roots music that makes room for everything from Motown hooks to roadhouse boogie-woogie.

"We're not trying to sound old-school," says McKinley, who grew up watching his father play drums for acts like Los Straitjackets and JD McPherson. "We love traditional blues and soul, but this isn't a retro act. The topics, themes, and songs are always fresh.

The man spread love, wisdom, and a lot of laughter everywhere he went. We will miss his kind friendship and ebullient spirit. To use his own words, we love you, Griff, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Deep condolences to his wife, children, and loved ones.

Little Rock and the world have lost a beautiful friend with the passing of Mr. Robert Griffin Sr, longtime DJ of The Quiet Storm jazz show on KABF 88.3 FM. It was always special to turn on the radio on a rainy Sunday morning and hear Mr. Griff's unmistakable voice drifting through the airwaves. Tonight! Excited to celebrate the release of Jimbo Mathus: Live At The White Water Tavern, Vol 1. Doors are going to open @ 6pm w/ Bud Watkins BBQing out front. Emily Fenton & Marco Samour open the show @ 8pm followed by Jimbo Mathus & Creatures of the Southern Wild. There will be rock. Tickets for $15 @ www.whitewatertavern.com

"An arsonist tried to burn down Little Rock's most famous dive bar twice in the 1980s. One listen to Live At The White Water Tavern will convince you that Jimbo Mathus finished the job a few decades later." - Eddie Huffman

Jimbo Mathus has blazed a singular path as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and shaman for 40 years. Founder of New Orleans swing band Squirrel Nut Zippers, he has recorded and released more than 300 songs – a testament to his craftsmanship and to the sounds, sights, and spirits of his inspirations in the Deep South.

Emily is an artist from Little Rock, Arkansas with roots in Ithaca and New York City. Her music is born of a desire to connect with others through stories, lyrics, and melodies. An affinity for cut-to-the-chase lyrics and a fascination for psychedelic concept albums led to the creation of her first full-length album, Hello, from Planet Earth. The record, blending elements of classic country, folk, and contemporary indie-rock, heightens a mundane world through the lens of falling in love. The record was recorded at White Water Tavern in the summer of 2022.

The otherworldly Adam Faucett & The Spectral Class will kick their tour off at the White Water this Thursday night along with excellent sets from Taylor Hollingsworth of Birmingham, Alabama and Levi Thomas, back home from the West Coast. Music starts at 8pm and tickets are available at www.whitewatertavern.com ✨

Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, and possessing a voice the Onion A.V. Clubwarns “knocks your brain into the back of your skull,” Adam Faucett has drawn comparisons from Tim Buckley to Cat Power to Otis Redding.

Born and raised in the Ozarks and currently haunting the west coast; Levi Thomas writes cosmic American folktales set to a backdrop of psychedelic rock and roll. Owing equal debts to the anthology of American folk music, the heartworn troubadours of the 70s, and the feedback laden heyday of SST records.

blend of folk and rock, he has carved out a distinct musical niche that he affectionately calls "folk n' roll" or electric folk. Taylor's dedication to his craft has earned him accolades and recognition both within and outside the local music scene.

Having made waves in the industry, Taylor's music has found its way onto popular TV shows and movies, showcasing his ability to craft captivating melodies that resonate with audiences of all kinds. Notably, his talents have even attracted the attention of renowned artists Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers, who covered his song Dominos, solidifying his status as a true songwriting force.
