Honestly I’m surprised they’re just now doing this. CA schools and employers came out with guidance months ago. But you’re totally right that no one, especially children, should have to be worrying about this.

It’s not a distraction.

It’s fascism.

Fascism is here. We are not “getting closer” or “in danger of.”

This matters because it frames our discussion: We aren’t trying to prevent it, we’re trying to defeat it. It’s not taking over our institutions, it’s taken them over.

Otherwise, we’re always behind, fighting a past we’ve already lost.

i really think the only reason we haven't created new states — which was a common political tactic in the 19th century, see nevada and the dakotas — is that 50 is a round number

Things seem to be dying down & aren’t as high as last summer. Looks to me like COVID’s starting to wane. Haven’t had a major spike since last summer & usual pattern seems to have disappeared. Now it’s smaller peaks every once in awhile. I hope the trend continues & the peaks get lower & lower

The governor of a state is the usual activator of Nat’l Guard. Since there isn’t a Gov, Pres does this for DC.
